739.2Pulsar Pro 200 warning!!!BPOV02::LAMPROSBill LamprosWed Feb 15 1989 14:5310
Each time I tried to race indoors with my Pulsar Pro 2000 the car
would go crazy picking up stray signals from other radios. It really
doesn't matter what frequencys or radios the other people are using.

When asking various people what might be the problem, several people
told me that the Pulsar works ok outdoors but is terrible indoors.
Several have scrapped their Pulsar for other radios. Since then,I
bought a Futaba Magnum Jr. and have experienced no problems while
racing. The Pulsar is Junk indoors if other cars are racing.
Anybody want to buy a good used Pulsar?
739.3That Explains the LOW price!!KAOO01::BORDANo one expects the Spanish InquisitionThu Feb 16 1989 19:225
That probably explains the low purchase price Bill.Since buying
this radio I stripped on servo, the spline shaft is about 1/16"
shorter then say a Futaba, and the large servo-saver I put on the
Blackfoot stripped the splines.I replaced the servo with a Futaba
model that holds up a lot better!

    re. .5

My Pulsar 2000 is now at the repair center to have the interference
problem fixed. When I spoke with them (Hobby Services) prior to
dropping it in the mail, they seemed to know of the problem (called
it something like "inter-modulo three distortion". Not being trained
in rf stuff, they coulda told me anything and I'd have swallowed
    it. At least temporarily!).

The lady I spoke with at their service center was named Tedra.

This past weekend we were at Thompson's speedway (Derry N.H.'s
indoor dirt track) and experienced the problem again, but only
after several other cars were running. When we first arrived
there were only maybe three other cars going, and we ran fine
(well, that is if you leave our driving skills out of it).
After the place got a bit more crowded, things went progressively
downhill until we just couldn't get in a lap without radio problems.

Interestingly enough, we found the one other person there with
channel 80 had the same problem (on a Magnum Jr.). We were
both cognizant that we were sharing the channel, so I know we
weren't screwing each other up with sloppy transmitter handling.

I'll post results here when the Pulsar is back and I have a chance
    to track test it.

739.8In front of the stand...AIMHI::DWYERGreg, MKO1-2/G38, 264-8070, ISM/FDGThu Mar 02 1989 17:2122
    re. .7

    >Every time I drove past the drivers stand, my car
    >would either die, or take a drastic right turn.

Hmmm. Want to know the location (on the track) of all our problems?

Right in front of the driver's stand.

I did what I feel is a very thorough check for conflicting channel
use (went up to *everyone there* checking for channel 80 users).

I know that possibility still exists though. A couple of other
drivers left in disgust last Saturday due to what they were sure
were channel conflicts. Possibly the only way to combat the problem
is by impounding the radios. This track may do that during races,
as I've only been there renting time thus far.

I hope we can get the radio sorted out!

On the track where my son and I rac (Fox Hill in Burlington,Mass),
all radios are impounded except for the people racing. They also
make sure there are no frequency conflicts for each race. The only
radio that has problems after all this is the Pro 2000.
Radios should always be impounded during qualifyying runs and races.
If the track doesn't enforce this rule, go somewhere else. It's
frustrating when some jerk is using their radio when your going for a
    trophy.
People should not be trusted to hold their own radios while
    others are racing.
                                      Bill

    REF .9

Is Fox Hill still racing? If so would you know what weekend out
of the month they don't race. I use to race there every so often
and forgot if it was the second or third weekend they shut down.
Also what is the starting time?

About radio hits another thing to check for is other electrical
interferences. At Roll On America i use to get a slight hit in the
far corner all the time and so did other drivers. It depended on
where you stood in the drivers stand. Nobody could figure out why.
At Roller Kingdom I use to take a big hit in the close corner every
time I went by. I mean like no control at all. Turned out to be
the display lights on the wall. Once they were turned off the problems
went away. I know when you get hit the first thing that gets the
blame is someone has turned on their transmitter but don't forget
to check out other possibilites also.

I have to agree with .10. A month or so ago, Roll on America was
doing some renovations and workman were there during the races.
They were using BIG electric drills (industrial type), and some
frequencies were unusable while they worked.

That was fairly obvious though. What I generally see is that people
won't impound their radio's until their first race. In other words
if their racing in say 4WD class, and superstock and 2WD have to
run before them, they'll keep their radio's in the pits until they
race. THEN they'll put them in the impound box for the rest of the
night. Then again, we did have a case one night where there was
some low life out in the parking lot with a radio having FUN crashing
    everyone.
