| The question was raised off-line, "Weren't the new Futaba 7UAP radios recalled
earlier this year with some kind of design problem?" As it happens, a fellow
at the flying field last week, a JR devotee, had mentioned the same thing. So,
after hearing the same thing twice in a week's time, I decided to get the
story directly from Futaba's Service Manager and friend, Eloy Marez since I was
more than casually interested, having just ordered a new 7UAP PCM 1024 rig.
I just got off the phone with Eloy moments ago and here's the straight of it:
Quite simply, it was the 7U"H"P, the helicopter version, that was recalled,
not the 7UAP aircraft radio. Eloy hastened to mention that the problem with
the heli-radio was unrelated to actual operation but was a minor problem with
the LCD display; the radio performed fine but had a minor glitch in the display
that was quickly corrected by means of the recall.
I felt certain that Eloy would have mentioned it to me if there was the remotest
possibility of a problem and he verified this, saying, "Hell, Al, if there was
a known problem with any system we make, not only would I have told you of it,
we wouldn't be selling that system 'til the problem was corrected." Eloy went
on to add that the new 1024 series has experienced the lowest return rate, for
ANY reason, of any radio in Futaba's history. Certainly gives this here cowboy
a warm-and-fuzzy feeling.

I'm not sure where to put this as there are about 20 different
Futaba articles. If it is inappropriate here please move it.
I have two questions: First, can you connect, via a trainer cord,
a Futaba Conquest FM and a Futaba Conquest PCM and have them work
as a trainer system? The Futaba FM I have is a basic 4 channel
with trainer switch and jack. The PCM is 6 channel with switch
and jack.
Second question: If the above will work which transmitter is turned
on, which is turned off, which one do you use the trainer switch
with and which one do you extend the antenna?
I have only been into RC for about 3 years and have never had to
teach anyone. I would like to know what to do to get a trainer
system to work.
Oh, one more note, (for what it is worth) the FM is channel 28 the
PCM is channel 33.
Thanks,
Rich
