My Valencia flew, but was about as hot as the Etude. I second Dan's
    recommendation, though.

I too live in an Apt., with a Wife and 3 quatz. It's really no problem.
You build with CYA, so when you're done for the night, it's relatively
easy to pick up what's been assembled, and put it on a bookcase, and
take the loose stuff and put it back in the box. Really, though, I
leave my stuff set up. The critters have yet to cause any damage or
mishaps (they hate the smell of CYA, so if they get curious, just give
'em a few snorts of vapor. They'll stay well clear after a few
    lessons).

As for choice, I highly recommend the Goldberg Electra. It's easy to
assemble, flies quite well, particularly for a beginner, and can be
repaired (which is a big advantage over most ARFs). Buy the stripped
kit (no motor) and get a geared Astro Cobalt 05, and a Master Airscrew
12-8 folder, and a 7 cell battery pack

I second the motion for the Electra, I flew the wings off mine for
my first year, and I wish someone had suggested the geared motor
to me!! But anyway, I would suggest you order a couple extra nose
cowlings right up front as it seems to be the weak link and breaks
often, also I would suggest you not bother with the screws on the
side of the cowl to hold it on. I ended up throwing a loop of masking
tape around it and it worked just great,(althought it looked a little
tacky!!) and it didnt break EVERY time I landed a little hard. Good
    luck with it!!

For a great skid you might want to use a piece of cogged fanbelt
glued and tacked. It should extend from just barely below the nose
to at least the wing leading edge with a small nail fore and aft.
Besides being indestructable, it really helps you grab in for a
    quick stop for precision landing.
