Yesterday I got started on winter project #1, the Balsa
USA EAA bipe that I bought from Jim O'Neill. The kit comes
together very nicely and the instructions and plans are
excellent. My only disappointment is with a lot of the balsa. I
thought Balsa USA was the BEST!?
Does anyone here have any experience with this kit? I
have a question about the engine. In the ad they advertise it as
a .50 to .71 2 stroke plane, which is surprisingly small for a
60" bipe. The size of the cowl is ideal for the Malloney 125
that I have sitting around and I would love to use that engine,
but I'm a tad worried about wing loading and balancing. The
Malloney weighs 3 lbs plus!

A friend of mine once had the kit. He originally wanted to put the
Maloney 100 into it. I don't see any problem with wing loading.
Rather I'd worry about being nose heavy. The one's I've seen fly
fine on anything from a 60 -90 2 stroke or 90-120 4 stroke.

Thanks Tom,
I plan to add lead to the tail to balance it. I think
I'll complete the kit and see how much off balance it will be.
How does the bird fly anyway? I got it to have something to
attach my 1/4 scale skis to.
