674.1Thoughts on the SensorUSRCV1::BLUMJWed Aug 24 1988 18:0915
The Sensor looks like an interesting ship and a good value to!
It comes with a fiberglass fuselage, fiberglass spoilers, flaps
and has 117" wingspan, available for less than $90 mailorder. The
unique feature of the Sensor is its ability to deploy flaps and
spoilers at the same time(apparently this is done through mechanical
mixing) which allows vertical descent without stressing the airframe
beyond its limits(at least according to the designer). This is
a nice feature when competing in contests which require precision
landings. I am seriously considering building this ship, it is
unique and offers a lot of features for the dollar. I have never
seen one in person which surprises me because it sure looks like
    a winning design.

674.2I am leary of Dynaflite but its hard to resist.CSC32::M_ANTRYThu Aug 25 1988 14:3732
Hey Bob, I just had to throw this in to the guy (a Budding 2 month
beginner) who flys my gentle lady than I do and I have been flying
Power for 3+ years and gliders for the last 7 months. The sensor
is mfg by a company called Dynaflite and they also mfg a kit called
the butterfly which is a .20 powered 99" wingspan power plane.
I built that kit and never was I more disgusted at a kit. For the
40+ dollars (tower) that I paid for the kit I thought it was terrible.
For starters the leading edge came as a square piece of balsa, hard
to believe huh?, the trailing edge was triangled but on the outboard
panels they had to be tapered lengthwise from 1+" to about 3/8"
for fun, try to do this and still maintian the triangle shape.
The wing was turbulated on the leading edge (you know those 1/8
by 1/8 square sticks that run the lenght of the wing just behind
the leading edge), try cutting the slot for each one of them in
99" of wing to add up to very soft ribs, and I think there was 2
    of them.

I had thought about the Sensor also and was just about ready to
buy. But our club, Pikes Peak Soaring Society, has ordered 13 Larry
Jolly Pantera's for all of us experienced Gentle Lady flyers and
I thought that is what the big guys recomend thats what I'll go
with then all they can say is you just need more experience.

As a side note Bob Page and I are in the same club and the same building
and the same boat (we both need to move up from the Gentle Lady).
Bob ususally shows up at the field with his Electra and flys it
once and then pesters me to death and ends up flying my Lady (I
had to say that Bob) Like last night, he flew the electra once
I flew the lady once) Then I helped some guys trying to F3b calibrate
a which while Bob flew my lady, even to where the sun was down and
    the moon was up.

Can you find out the cost and address for the Pantera. I'd thought
that Larry Jolly wasn't kitting them any more.

    P.S. Post answer here.
674.4Larry Jolly --- over [fort]night responseCSC32::M_ANTRYTue Aug 30 1988 13:4422
I got some info by getting Larry's city off of his column in Model
Aviation (its the Helio column) and then called directory assistance
for that city and ask for Larry Jolly Products and then I called
that number and got a recording. They state on the recording that
they are still kitting and selling airplanes. I left my name and
    number and waited.

While I was waiting someelse from the club got in contact with him
and order the 13 Pantera's and then about 1 week after that(2 weeks
total), I got a call from them asking if I was interested in buying
a Pantera. I said no that one had already been ordered from them.

But our kits are not here yet but I hope they are on the way.

Our Club's cost for that quantity was about $85.00.

Bottom line, Be persistant and patient. If any info about ordering
comes with the kit when it gets here I will post it so that you
    can say...
