540.0. "G Force calculations" by RDGENG::NODDLE (Keith Noddle - CSSE, Reading, UK) Thu May 12 1988 12:57

    I like the idea of testing a airframe for strength before actually
    commiting the beast to the air. Does anyone know how to calculate
    the forces involved and where on the airframe to apply these forces?
    Obviously(?) a 3lb plane pulling 4G will have to sustain a force
    of 12lb, but where on the plane do I hang the appropriate number
    of bags of sugar and where do I suspend the airframe from?

    tta,

    Keith.

    Don't know the details but in most cases the inner third of the
    wing usually carries 90% of the stress.

540.2What about the tail?RDGENG::NODDLEKeith Noddle - CSSE, Reading, UKFri May 13 1988 09:528
    Thanks Tom.

    That obviously indicates that I don't suspend the 'plane by the
    wing tips! What about the force on the fuselage between wing and
    tailplane - after all, the tails must generate some lift and therefore
    put the fuselage under lateral strain...

    Keith,

    The April 1987 issue of Model Aviation has an article that
    talks to G force calculations, etc...

    If you don't have it, send me mail and I'll copy the article.

    Hope this helps,

    Brian
