| I vote for one file, with a "reviews" topic. If any individual
kit/design becomes controversial, that might be a candidate for
another topic, but I'd really prefer not to read any more notes
files.
Really, I think we have some of this already - there are topics
on "who makes the best kit," and "what is the best trainer," plus
a couple of "advice for a beginner." Those could be added to -
of a single "reviews" topic could be opened....

Not that I know all there is to know about notes, but I do
prefer to have as much as possible in one place. It seems
that a lot of others do also given that for sale stuff shows
up here and not in rc_swap, probably a prudent choice on the
part of the noter since maybe not everyone reads or knows of
the "other rc notes file".
It would be nice, though, if some of the not pertinent one
man's treasures could be removed from this file (no offense
Carol, one person's treasures) and some of the topics that
are plane specific organized that way.
I'd also like to see some of the duplicate topics combined
if that's possible and would be willing to do the work required
to accomplish that, but then I like empty directories too!

| My vote is to let her G R O W !!!!! If we all could start using
some Keywords and begin using the Notes features that so few know
about or know about and don't use(including myself) ie DIR/Title =...etc
than we could better use information that already exists. I am just
as guilty as everyone else.... as soon as I get into RC Notes I
do that proverbial DIR LAST-1 and pay attention to[for the most part]
the most recent entries. There are a LOT of repetitive questions
that would need not have be asked is someone only did a little search'n
via those short cuts.
Al Casey just showed me how to extract excerpt from other notes...
I'm sure there is a lot of other great facilities and features that
Vax Notes offers.... Let's just use um!
Also, I vote for getting the RC_SWAP in this file under one note.
If anyone has seen the Skiing notes file, or Car_buffs, then ya know
what I'm talking about... it seems to work good.
To the moderator... is there any documentation on the features that
are offered through Vax Notes??? If so, any chance we could make some
copies and get um circulating?
This whole thing is such a great wealth of information... I'm really
agreeable to "whatever"!!!!!!! Just keep something!

| Here's a thought.
Most of us want this info instantly available and also
want to keep up with the day to day babble and for sale ads
and the "can you help me withs".
What if someone took the notes file and cut and pasted
their brains out and made a book out of it. They could take
entire notes or parts of other notes and form chapters on
Hints for beginners
Do you need an instructor opinions
Suggested first trainers
Reviews of kits
Fiberglassing
Painting
Covering
Engine clinic
landing techniques
Aerobatics
Scale
Pattern
Gliders
Batteries
Cars
Hobby shops
Mail order
etc.
Then with a little organization you could change that into
a book and have available both on line and in printed form.
On several occasions I have printed a set of notes and taken home.
Some editorial freedom would of course be exercised and it would
never be "THE SAME" as the notes file. For instance how would
or could you maintain the Who's Who with What? By the way I think that
multiple listing certain notes is a good idea - for instance if there is a
good story in Ramblings and it gives a lesson on flight Safety or landing
procedures then that same note should also be included in the other topic
- not just pointers.
Anyway - I don't really have time but it seems like such a good Idea
that I will volunteer. I think I can even automate it such that if I
read a new note and decide to add it to the chapter on Scale then I
could get it inserted into the book with a couple of key strokes.
Lets here opinions - do I edit my brains out only for myself or is anyone
else interested?

Bet you thought I forgot about that.
Well I've been editing and now before I let anyone see the results I
want some constructive feedback.
Please look the following outline over and let me know what
subjects should be subordinate to what.
As I edited the old notes file (2,682 blocks) I ended up creating a lot
of topics on the fly and didn't get them well structured.
Since the new notes file is 11136 blocks long - I want to reorganize
before I start populating the book with the new entries.

432.30 | What a task! | SNDCSL::SMITH | William P.N. (WOOKIE::) Smith | Thu Feb 25 1988 12:38 | 32 |
| re: .29
> Also, would it make any sense to alphabetize

No, that's what the index is for... :+}
re: .28
It does look like quite a task, but it might be easier to deal with
if you were to break it up into several chapters each covering a
related group of stuff, ie:
1) Modelling
2) R/C
3) Cars, Boats
4) Planes
So those of us with little or no interest in planes (can you be
into R/C and not into planes? I suspect it might be illegal, please
don't turn me in!) can skip to the good stuff.
Also, one wonders how much good a for_sale/wanted section would
be, unless you were to update very frequently...
Other than that, it looks great, should I get in line for a copy
now?
