429.0. "Northeast Sport-Air 40" by MPGS::PERCUOCO () Mon Jan 11 1988 16:29
HAS ANYONE BUILT AND FLOWN A "NORTHEAST A.D. SPORT-AIR 40?"
I JUST ORDERED IT FROM TOWER FOR MY SECOND PLANE. I PUT MY
C.G. EAGLE 63 TOGETHER AND SHE'S READY FOR THE WILD BLUE!
I HAVEN'T FLOWN YET AS I'M WAITING TILL SPRING AND A LITTLE
HELP! (A GOOD LOOKING SHIP!) ANYWAY, THE SPORT-AIR 40 LOOKS
LIKE A GOOD TRAINER ALSO. IT'S GOT A 58" WING SPAN AND TOWER
GIVES IT A GOOD WRITE-UP FOR THE NOVICE FLYER. ABOUT A MONTH
AGO I GOT THE KALMBACH VIDEO ON FLYING (GOOD RECOMENDATION
BOB GAROZZO) AND MY DAD AND I HAVE WATCHED IT A FEW TIMES
AND IT'S GONNA BE A BIG HELP WHEN OUR INSTRUCTOR GETS US
GOING!! THIS IS A GREAT TAPE TO GET YOU THROUGH THE FUNTIONALITY
OF THE RADIO, SERVO SYSTEM, AND THE ATTITUDES OF THE PLANE. ALOT
OF GOOD TIPS ON TAKE OFFS, LANDINGS, TURNS, STALLS, SPINS, ETC...
ETC...ALL IN ALL, A GREAT TAPE!!!!
ANYWAY, I'D BE INTERESTED TO HEAR IF ANYONE HAS GIVEN THE SPORT-AIR
40 A SHOT??????

429.1 | Sport Air 40 hints | SPKALI::THOMAS | | Tue Jan 12 1988 06:52 | 16 |
| Some seven years ago the Sport Air .40 was my second low winger.
My first was a scooter II that my buddy gave me. As a second plane
the sport air might be a little over your head. If however you
put considerable time in on the CG Eagle and are ready to make the
step it will be a fine ship for you. If memory serves me correct
the front tank compartment is removable. They indicate to seal it
using silicone. I did this and then ended up gluing it in place.
I would suggest that you open up the former at the leading edge
of the wing so that you can get the tank out that was and then glue
the hatch perminently. Also you will want to make up four plywood
rib reinforcements for the landing gear. I think they are glued
to only the balsa ribs. The ply will help here. It was a great
flying plane. Built well. I had an HB .40 PD in mine. Any good .40
will pull it.

429.2 | Sport Air 40 as a low wing trainer | SALEM::COLBY | KEN | Tue Jan 12 1988 08:48 | 6 |
| I almost agree with Tom. My second plane was a Sportair 40. My
first plane was a Trainair 40. I think that the sportair is a good
second plane, but like Tom says, you want a fair amount of time
on your first plane. The Sportair makes a good low wing trainer.
