403.0. "Use and abuse of wing jigs" by SNOC01::BROWNTONY (Tony Brown) Thu Dec 17 1987 17:30

Greetings all! I'm back after having to do some real work!

Question: I imported an Adjust-o-jig from Tower last year and think
it's one of those indispensable tools. With the right glues, it
is fast as well as making even me produce a straight wing. However,
I'm about to build my first swept wing with it and the procedure
is not absolutely clear. Does anyone have any experience with building
swept wings on this or any other wing jig?

I'm building a couple of winter projects that I believe will require at
least a wing, if not a wing/fuse jig of sorts. I'm debating on the GP
wing jig or the Adjuto-jig for fuse and wing.....

Anybody have a preference? And of course why! One cost $16, the other
$50.

Cheers\

I believe that the adjusto jig is well worth the extra money...

The big difference is that the G.P. jig only allows you to do one
panel at a time. The adjusto jig allows you to do both sides at
the same time, including attaching the halves with the correct
dihedreil (sp). Once you do the setup work correctly, there is
little chance to twist a wing.

I built the entire SS-40 wing in one evening with the jig. All
I had to do is add the glass in the center.

    cheers,
    jeff

I bought the Adjust-o Jig a couple years ago and have lost the documentation
that it came with. I have not built a wing with it yet, but I'm about to try.

If I remember correctly, it came with just a couple sheets of instructions.
Could someone put a quick note in here outlining the procedure for using the
jig? Or, if you'd rather you could send a fax of the instruction sheet!

I can be reached at BRYAN::ARCHER...thanks!

I'll try to find my instructions at home.

The general idea is to stack the ribs with the correct taper (line up a straight
edge or spar) and drill a hole through the ribs. The steel rods slip through these
holes and fit into the plastic supports. You slide the plastic supports to the
proper rib positions and then tighten down the base to hold them in place. You
put a rubber band over the rods to hold them down. It's pretty straight forward
(which is why there were only a couple of sheets of instructions) I'll check in
the shop over the next couple of nights.
