191.0. "INFLIGHT MIXTURE ????" by DPDMAI::GREER () Tue Apr 07 1987 13:41

HAVE A SITUATION WHERE I NEED TO HOOK UP AN INFLIGHT CONTROL
IN A MANNER DIFFERENT THAN THE USUAL...

IN PYLON WE USE A FUEL CUTOFF TO STOP THE ENGINE. PINCH THE FUEL
LINE. THROTTLE UP IS THEN WIDE OPEN WHERE THROTTLE DOWN PINCHES
THE FUEL LINE AND STOPS THE FUEL FLOW.

WHAT WE ARE TRYING TO DO IS HOOK UP AN INFLIGHT MIXTURE USING
THE SAME SERVO. WHAT WOULD WORK PERFECTLY WOULD BE TO USE THE
THROTTLE TRIM IF IT WORKED ON THE HIGH SIDE OF MY GOLD BOX
    FUTABA'S.

ONE ALTERNATIVE WOULD BE TO GO TO MINI SERVO'S. ONE FOR RUDDER,
FUEL AND MIXTURE. THIS WOULD KEEP THE WEIGHT DOWN. TWO PROBLEMS
WITH THIS APPROACH....EXPENSE AND CHANGING OUT THE EXISTING
    TRAY SETUP.

HOW DO YOU PATTERN FLIERS DO IT?

DOES ONYONE KNOW HOW TO GET THE TRIM ON A FUTUBA ON THE HIGH
    SIDE OF THROTTLE?????

    THANKS BOB

Two things Bob. One is that we don't use it any more. We
went back to he KISS formula.
Second is that you could use the throttle in a reversed
mode. Set up the plane so that you get a low throttle setting
when is all the way forward. I don't know how you would do it
electricly. Perhaps you could rewire the gimbal or trim switch.

I think you need to ask yourself if it's really needed.

Bob,

I use the OS in flight mixture control (OS No.71703009) for my engines and
you will find that you can flood the engine to stop it. Flooding has an added
advantage it cools the engine a little with the extra fuel, it preserves the
plugs (I am getting up to 12 runs per plug) and you are left with a wet
engine giving an excess of oil after the flight.

I connect the mixture control to the flap function of the radio as I find it
is too easy to move the position of the throttle during a flight; I fly mode 1.
I do know of one person who changed his radio to make the throttle stick the
Trim, and the trim the Throttle, this is so he can fine adjust the mixture
during the flight without taking his fingers of the stick.

John.
