| I don't know who you found to make them, but We've had good luck
dealing with the A T Patch Co., P O Box 682, Littleton NH 03561.
Much of their work is hand made, so they are willing to do patches
in very small quantities (like 10) for reasonable prices.

I called and they only repair engines that they have reworked.
Clarence designed engines for K&B for several years so they
have some special arrangement with K&B and do not help the
competition (OS).
They gave me the number of an engine person however.

7.37 | Scale Plans and Photo Service | CLOSUS::TAVARES | John -- Stay low, keep moving | Wed Mar 08 1989 09:44 | 13 |
| Scale Plans and Photo Service has some nice info on the J-3.
Phone 1-(919)292-5239. They advertise in the mags. Call them in
the late afternoon/evening as this is a "cottage industry" shop.
Their catalog even has a nice J-3 plan, as a sample for a 1/4
scale plan, but with enough info that it can be redrawn to a
working drawing. Call them up and order a catalog, its a very
tasty listing.
At our club meeting last nite one of the members brought in a J-3
based on a Balsa USA kit -- it was copied from one at a local
airport, typical yellow, etc. But sure nice. I think they'll be
building models on that for the next thousand years, assuming
there's an atmosphere left!

7.32 | League of WWI Aviation Historians (moved to here) | WRASSE::FRIEDRICHS | Never trust a premi! | Thu Jul 13 1989 10:17 | 40 |
| OK all of you history buffs and World War 1 enthusiasts, listen
up......
The "League of WWI Aviation Hostorians" is having a membership drive.
The League publishes a beautiful quarterly bound, soft-cover book
called "Over the Front" that has a number of articles about all
sorts of aspects of the war in the air during WWI. It has original
pictures of pilots and planes and all sorts of stats.
The reason I call it a book as opposed to a magazine is that it
is printed on heavy paper. It is usually about 190 pages long.
It does have some ads, but they are mostly for other similar interest
magazines and information.
For anyone that remembers them, this is kind of the replacement
for the now extinct American chapter of Cross & Cockade.
It's only $25/year. I have already gotten some scale info from
the league. They are invaluable if you are doing a WWI scale project.
If you want to join, send your check to...
Bowman A Brown, jr.
Membership Secretary
135 E. Lauer Lane
Camp Hill, PA 17011
Please give them my name as there is a contest. Also, please send
me mail letting me know that you joined so that I know how many
points I have. If you have any other questions about them, feel
free to post them here.
Oh yea, when you send your money, be sure to indicate if you want
it to be applied to 1988 or 1989. If you specify 1988, then you
will get all 4 1988 issues (then you will get billed for your 1989
dues :-) ).
cheers,
jeff

7.50 | Flight jacket source | PNO::CASEYA | THE DESERT RAT (I-RC-AV8) | Fri Jan 12 1990 14:17 | 40 |
| Terry,
If'n yer' referrin' to CXO, it's even further than that...over 400
miles as I recall from when we drove the motorhome up there for the '88
Masters Qualifier.
The A-2 jacket appeared in a full-page in the Jan. issue of Air
Classics and I have since spotted it in several other history-type
mag.'s such as the November issue of American Heritage. The
distributor of the Cooper A-2 flight jacket is:
MBI Flight Gear
47 Richards Ave.
Norwalk, Conn. 06857
1-800-367-4534
It's actually a little cheaper than some of the 'replica' jackets I've
seen advertised...at least for me as there was no extra charge for
large/long sizes; most of the replicas require you to add %20 for large
or long sizes. In addition, they'll bill yer' credit card in 6-monthly
installments of $42.75 which totals to the asking price of $249.00 +
$7.50 shipping, or $256.50, which is exactly what you pay if you opt to
make a one-time payment by check. All-in-all, it appeared to me to be
the easiest, fairest way I'd seen to get one of these jackets...and a
for-really one at that, not a replica.
Hard to guess January weather hereabouts. It's been a very
unseasonably warm week up to today but it's now overcast outside and I
haven't heard what the weather-guessers are predicting for Sunday.
Short of rain or high wind I've got to fly so I hope the weather's at
least civil Sunday. My ace-in-the-hole is next Friday which I've taken
off and could use for test flying though I hate to fly that close to a
meet as any scrapes etc. that might occur can't be dealt with in time
for the contest so I'd prefer to get it done with Sunday.

| Hi Ben,
There's sort of a couple of Heli mags that come out of the UK. The one I'm most
familiar with is RC Helicopters/USA. A nice mag but I keep hearing rummors that
its in financial trouble. So far, evertime I'm convinced they've gone under a
new copy shows up at the hobby shop.
The other mag I can't put a name on right name. It's not bad, I just don't like
the quality of the paper they print on compared to the first magazine. If I
remember, I'll try and post the address of both mags here over the weekend.

Catalog price - $3.00
If you are going to build any scale old-time bipes... this is
the place to get fittings, flying wires, turnbuckels, shock cord,
miniature screws, antique control quadrants, etc.
Here are a list of the plan they have available and their prices...
#1000 Antic Floats $10.00
#1001 Mini-Antic Mono $14.00
#1002 Antic Mono $24.00
#1003 Antic Parasol $29.00
#1004 Nieuport XI $35.00
#1005 Antic Bipe $35.00
#1006 Nieuport 28C $35.00
#1007 Curtis Jenny JN4-D2 $35.00
#1008 Curtis Jenny Handbook $ 8.25 Reprint of original equip handbk
#1009 Mini-Antic Bipe $25.00
#1010 Anti Bipe Seaplane $35.00
#1100 Albatros DVa $65.00
All plans come with construction manuals.
ALSO...
If you need a good set of scale plans (scale meaning standard
model aircraft building practices with formers and ribs being in
their scale positions but exterior scale done exteremly well) I
would check out Scale Plans and Photos in Greensboro NC. They have
a 1/5 and 1/4 scale DVa plans set for a reasonable charge ~$30.00.
You can find an ad of theirs in almost any model aircraft mag. Their
catalog is $5.00 and has about a 100-120 pages. I've done some
business with them and they are good folks.
Good luck

| Al;
While it won't get you to the RC notes conference, you might
consider CompuServe as an alternate computer fix. I've heard that
Modelnet is almost as big a wealth of information as this VAX
Notes conference :-)
On top of that, you can send mail between CompuServe and the Enet
to keep in touch with all of your old notes buddies! The format
is:
>INTERNET:[email protected]
Noters can send you mail, once they know your user number by
sending mail to (note the CompuServe "," becomes a "."):
nm%decpa::"#####.####@CompuServe.com"
This is the same syntax I posted in the note on how to reach AMA
HQ.
Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with CompuServe other than to
exchange mail with people who feel the need to PAY for using
someone elses computer.
