| Fra,
I think you are right about "1 a day in Alabama". I think you can only
have 5 in possession though. Of course I have never had 5 in
possession, so I don't think that would be a problem. It would be fun
to try though.

Along with 1 moose a year, a couple of caribu, a bear and a partridge
in-a-pear-tree.....plus ya get to live in Alaska!
Hummm...where can I get a copy of the Anchorage Times?

I was down at the Wal_mart in Hudson,MA last saturday. They
had 4 carriages with tons of knapsacks in them all for 50% off.
There was one there that was called "Hikers H20". It was a
fanny pack that had 2 plastic squeeze water bottles, each of which
fit into it's own insulated pocket. The pack itself wasn't very
large, maybe 10"x6"x3", so you couldn't carry alot of stuff
but for scouting and one day trips you can't beat it. The best part
was the price, marked down from $30 to $12.50 then half of that,
so it cost only $6.25. I bought two of them. They had black, green,
blue and had 10 or so left but hurry if you want one they may go
quick. The carriages are right where the registers are.

Ed, I don't know a definite date but last year they were drawn
on 9/28, so I would assume they would do them again around the
same time this year. I will keep an eye out for the date tho.

Zones 10,12,13, & 14 ALL applications were filled.
The F&G really doesn't say why (many deer or little applicants) that
those zones all who applied get permits. I do know from experience that
finding good places to hunt in Zone 10 usually requires getting permission
from a land owner as a lot of towns are instituting that ruling or taking
your chances at a crowded State Forest.
Also F&G said the permits would be mailed out about Mid-October.

According to the flunky at wal mart, as of July 1, 1996 you must now
present the previous years license or a hunter ed certificate in
order to purchase a hunting license. I know this law was in the works
but did not know it passed and had neither the license or cerificate
with me. So with a few choice words for the manager I left empty
handed. The 1st flunky had been giving them out and actually had mine
all filled out and was within 1 minute of giving it to me when the
manager came up and stopped him. GGRRR! Well off to the town hall then
the post office after work.

1450.30 | Permits available, but don't tell! | USCTR1::HAMELIN | | Tue Aug 13 1996 13:36 | 9 |
| Per this morning's W T&G anterless applications received are way under the
available supply at this time. This has the F&G puzzled as to why there are
~7 thousand fewer applicants than the number of permits to be issued -
especially given that they are going to provide a 2nd chance for those
denied in their requested zone to apply for an alternate. The deadline
is 8/15 for the first round, I forget what the re-application process
specifics are but it has something to do with permits which remain
after the usual zone drawing. I've yet to make the cut in the 20 years
I've applied - hope this will break my streak!
|
1450.31 | Just the facts | USCTR1::HAMELIN | | Wed Aug 14 1996 13:45 | 3 |
| So far only 24,000 received for the 32,675 available permits. In prior
years the average # applicants was about 40,000.

I sent mine in today, finally. I spent 3 hours looking for a hunting
license yesterday. Town hall in clinton was closed, tackle annex in
hudson dont sell them, neither does wal mart in hudson. Ended up driving
out to K-mart in Leominster to get it. two guys in line ahead of me tried
to buy thiers. No hunters ed certificate and no last years license. They
were not amused. You would think that the F&W floks or someone would
have tried to get the word out about the new law. many people dont
know about it and i think that along with the higher prices is causing
folks to say no to hunting. I know I did not buy a fishing license
this year and wont next year either because of the price. I dont like
to fish that much but my 4 year old does so I take him and one rod.
I actually have more fun fishing with him than without him 8')
Anyway it looks good for those of us who will apply for the permits.
