The hissing/grunting was from a Deer. Did you see it ? You say
it was pre-dawn and was very big. Even a Doe or small Buck can
make alot of noise if it wants to. The scraps/rubs do indicate
that you were is a Bucks prime zone, so it may have been him.

See above. As to how to get him, I don't have the time of energy
to type that much data on my keyboard;-)

The gut pile was probably gone before you woke upthe next
morning. It should not have an impact. The forest critters do
a good quick job of cleaning up.

| Amen on the critters. When I shot my 14 pointer, I took the gut pile
and chucked into the woods. We took the deer to the cooler, and when
we got back, the gut pile was 90% ate up by buzzards and who knows what
else. By the way, the time span was about one hour.

-< Tree Stands? >-
Ok guys, I'm not a pro on hunting so answer a question for me please.
I thought tree stands were only allowed for Bow hunting? Yes? No?
Anne
Anne,
In Georgia Tree stands are used for both bow hunting and
rifle hunting. Your mileage may vary from state to state. Tis
best to check with your local wildlife/fish and game folks.

| Anne...
I think the message here is it is legal to use a tree stand
for any type of deer hunting.. I know for sure in Mass.

I don't think I've heard of a state that the WERE NOT legal in. The
only things i've seen/heard of are limitations to how they are
attached, permission by land owner, and that they don't cause damage
to the tree. I use mine in both N.H. and Mass, that's my justification
for having more than one.

Tree stands seem to be far more common in bow hunting, but there is no
legal reason (that I know of) for not using them in gun season.

| They're safer to. Deer don't climb trees. So nobody can shoot you and
say they thought you were a deer. Just don't fall out.

Don't be so sure. It's happened on more than one occasion. One fella was even
wearing a full body suit of blaze orage when he was shot in his tree stand.
