We haven't had any rumors since August of 1989!
I heard a rumor that a petite brown boat was found out on

a passenger in that boat jumped out and stuck their thumb in the
drain hole then footed back to the beach being towed only by his
thumb!

I heard YAR (Yet another rumor) that a very nice boat
with a blue stripe was stolen from the beach on the Merrimack

boat thief proceeded to drive the boat over various rocks

gear. A chase by the Marine patrol began on the water and ended
with land,water and air support.
Did anyone see any futher info on this in the newspaper?

Reg,
"Small local puddle" , "Ski Challenger". You MUST be talking
about Lake Boon. I had heard these guys we going to try to put
up a course. I know of MANY people who have tried there before
only to be refused by the Lake Assoc. I do not know if these guys
went the official route or not. (i.e. put it up and see if any
complains) One problem that has always been there in the small basin
is the backwash you get off of ALL the walls in that basin.
I hope that they do pull it off. It is always nice to see more
courses going up. Maybe if they use sub-bouys and disconnect the
turn and boat bouys when thay are not using it they can get away with
it. A guy who used to ski in our club lived on a real small lake
and he would litterly drop the course to the bottom when he was done
then just pick it up and attach the bouys the next day. He got pretty
good at it. I think it only took him about 15-20 minutes to get it all
up and floating and it saved him many hassels with him
neighbors/fishermen.

Although this is old it *is* true. Many years ago when I was
a youngin' (somewhere around the early 70's) there was a Shark
that was sighted in the Merrimack River near the then Lowell Tech
boathouse. It was caught and was nearly dead anyways. Speculation
was that a couple of pranksters caught the critter out on the
ocean and dumped it into the River for yucks. I remember seeing
pictures in the Lowell Sun and it was a fairly large Shark (maybe
10-12 feet).
There are some absolutely *HUGE* Carp in that River.

old boats that people still want $13K+ for.
I see a lot of non-Nautiques and non-Mastercrafts for sale. Seems like
the average recreational skier buys a new toy then bails out 2 years
later. Don't see many, if any Nautiques or MC 190's. I've heard of, or
read of mostly Ski Centurions. Found a 89 Ski Supreme that looks
interesting although I've heard they have a bit of a rooster tail at 15'
off. The place I bought my Baja from is willing to take it back in
trade if I want a Sumpreme. I could do a Supreme. :^) There are a
couple of Malibu's available on consignment. There is a lot out there if
one know's what one wants.

| Jeff,
I almost went that route, trade in the Baja on a Supreme,
because the dealer sells both boats and would give me good
$$$ on a trade-in. As of lately however, I've decided to
hold onto the Baja, because this seems to be the year to
buy a house, preferably on a lake, and then offer my dock
to somebody with a tournament boat. :>)
I know of a 1987 Mastercraft for sale, for $15,5 if you're
interested. Very well maintained and not hardly used in
the last two years. This is a private sale, you might be
able to talk him down some.
Keep looking, wheelin' and dealin', you've got a few weeks
left before it's time to ski the Merrimack!

| Yowzha! $15.5 for an '87 ! Valley Marina can put me in a leftover
1991 Mailbu Euro F3, 4 hours on the meter, loaded with everything
including power seat for $16.9K including trailer and cover, and
*guaranteed*.
I've found a couple of used boats that were bought with 6-10 year RV
loans. After 2-3 years they loose interest in the boat and try to sell
it only to discover they haven't touched the principal balance! Hence
the high asking price for a lot of the used boats.
Looking is half the fun, although demo'ing this time of year is tough.
I'm in no hurry. We have head_count_reductions starting here next week.
Would be a bummer having a fancy ski without gainful employment. :^(

I did'nt find any rooster tail problem at 15 off. The wakes were small

No, the red/black/white boat at water skis plus last saturday
wasn't (& isn't) mine. It is a barefoot Nautique done in Custom

Yes, the rumor is true. There is one less Baja owner in
the notes file. I was very happy with my 174 Sunsport
but it just did not do some of the more specialized skiing/footing
that I wanted. I hope its new owner will happy with it. I will miss
some of its features but I think I will be pretty happy with my brand new
Flightcraft 20XLOB
Powered by a 200 HP Mercury XRI OB
Fuel Injected, with power steering.
High Five SS Prop.
Colors are White Hull With Teal, Black, and Gray stripes
interior colors match as well.
Eagle Trailer Custom Drive-on Trailer.
Teal in color with independant suspension and serge breaks.
Needless to say I am VERY happy. The performance is amazing!!!!
It is quoted as 0-36 in 4.2 sec. and I can believe it. It is finned
so handeling is quite good as well. Top speed so far has been about
60 mph and that was not even pushing the trim much and with the 5 blade
prop. (engine was broken in first) Does 52 mph with the trim fully
tucked in and fully loaded. Have not tested its pulling power to the
limit yet but I am told it will pull 4 barefooters deepwater start
without a problem and you can be sure this will be tried. :-)
Slalom wake is quite good as well.
I could go on...
I will try to plan a gumball at Fort Meadow in Marlboro
sometime soon to show the new toy.

RHIT (rumor has it that) someone has been experimenting as
follows with a DRY SUIT:
Experiment #1:
To determine the feasibility of donning a dry suit
while the hanger is still in the suit.
result; possible, but not really practical - a thinner wire
hanger might have submitted sooner.
Experiment #2:
To determine whether or not a dry suit is as good at
keeping icy cold water IN as OUT.
result; totally successful, though letting it out through the
ankle cuffs proved to be a lot slower than letting it
in through the yard long zipper across the shoulders.

We'll almost certainly be out there on Ft Meadow Pond SOME
time over the w/e, call first to make sure.
============================================================
Experiment #4: To determine the feasibility of skiing with
just a rear high wrap binding, while wearing the front high wrap but
having it not attached to the ski. This was difficult, our
experimentor had to allow most of the screws holding the front binding
to work themselves almost all the way out, then ski hard enough to
just pop the rest of them. Conclusion; CAN be done, but its weird
having the front foot just standing on the pad, though it gets good
laughs from the spotter and those on shore when the skier just waves
the boot at them.

You didn't describe the details of that scientific experiment!
1) Look at fuel guage.
2) Mumble something
3) (Here's the important part) Tap lightly with index finger
on guage and mumble. This part of the experiment must
be done correctly or the results will be skewed!
4) Listen for silence...
5) Idle to shore on remaining fuel after boat comes off plane.
6) Walk up enbankment to Texaco imposter.....

try just pulling a paling off a fence and skiing that.
we do it everynow and then for practice.
its hard work.
you have to have your leading foot behind the 1/2 way mark on the
paling for takeoff and once up you have to try and get one rear
corner to dig in as you havent got a fin.also you have to watch
any waves as the paling not having a curve up on the nose tends
to go straight in.
its the hardest thing ive ever skied but one of the most fun,
