415.18 | Some Ramblings..... | STRATA::BOURGAULT | | Wed Jun 28 1989 03:21 | 36 |
| Hmmmmm..... I spoze I could dredge up a couple of memories
to add here.
Variations on the themes of "My Toy", "Joe's Toy", etc...
or "Money Bucket", "Money Bin", etc..
Variations on the idea of naming your second boat ???? II -
"My Boat Too", "We Two", other cute ones using the
II / Two / Too collection of sound-alike words.
I had a chance once, and looked through the book (thick one!)
that lists the documented vessels in the U.S.. I recommend
doing this as a source for IDEAS, or just as amusement at
what people have named their boats.
And if you really, REALLY want to trip some Coast Guard
triggers, name your boat the "Liki Tiki". There are a
good number of Coasties on the East Coast that STILL
flinch at the name.... Until it sank (finally and for
good!), the original Liki Tiki provided frequent and
interesting diversion for units anywhere from Massachusetts
down to (almost) Florida. Each time a different owner
and ooperator was listed, and most every time the problem
was caused (or greatly aggravated by) "less than competent"
handling of the boat. It didn't take long for the word
to get passed that this was "an accident waiting to happen"!
(Unfortunately, with owners, etc. changing so fast and
frequently, it wasn't possible to "lean on" any one person...)
If you really want to upset an older Coast Guard person,
name your boat the "Liki Tiki Too", or something similar.

didn't have a name and my choice seemed obvious.

P.S. If you haven't figured out the name of the boat I'll give you
a hint. I returned a little late from a fishing trip with 2 of my

name of the boat. When my mother-in-law told him, he asked if this

| While we're being creative, I could use some help on naming my boat.
Particulars:
1965 Century Resorter mahogany inboard ski boat (at least it has
a center-mounted ski pilon, of course it's no Natique)
I've slowly been restoring it over the last 3 years. Made the
water for 4 months two summers ago.
I am partial to "Woodn't It Be Nice". This is a take-off on the song by
the Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" which was released in 1966 (maybe
they wrote the song in 1965?). Anyways, I thought it would be
appropriate for now as if to say "woodn't it be nice" if this boat got
finished and in the water rather than taking up so much space in the
garage.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated. "Wood" in the name would
be nice but not required.
Maybe there could be a prize for a really good, original name?
Thanks, Wayne

A few possibilities. . .
`Woodn't You ?'
`Redwood Dreams'
`Big Log' (After the song by Robert Plant)
`Just A Sapling'
Or any combination/alteration of the above.

| I call mine Helen Highwater.
But, I always remember an incident when I worked a case from Coast Guard
Station Gloucester in 1976. It involved a pleasure craft named
KAJAJABA (apparently all four family initials). The vessel called
in lost in fog at around 0230 on a sultry, humid, early-Summer morning.
The Cwatchstander collected all the info from the skipper and then woke
the OD for further instructions. The OD, still half asleep, was not the
brightest at that moment, and furthermore, he had no idea, from reading
the info sheet, how to pronounce KAJAJABA. We all knew it was KA
'JA-JA BA, as used by the skipper!
Reading the incident report while scratching his red hair, which stood
in total disarry, he appeared much like the scarecrow in 'OZ. . He
picked up the mike on the VHF and attempted to resume radio contact,
something like this: "Uhm v! Vessel Kaja Jaba Jaja. . . er Kaba jaba
ja... Baja Kaber Jaber..."
By now the entire radio room is on the floor, some of us cackling
uncontrollably, much to the disdain of the OD, who quickly composed
himself and stated "in his deepest, most professional tone, "Vessel Kay
Jay Jay Bee Jay, I mean Bee, no, Jay. . ." Then dropping the mike and
glaring at the VHF yelled "Is this candid camera? Are these guys
some kind of 'Smug Drugglers'?"
By this time, everyone in the room had to use the head. Finally, the
watchstander grabbed the mike and called the vessel to inform the
skipper that the station was responding to their situation, and a boat
would be dispatched to their location.
Everything turned out fine for the KAJAJABA, but at breakfast later
that morning, the OD turned to us and said, "What a night! I dream't I
couldn't talk without stuttering." You guessed it. Mass hysteria
broke out again.

How about names for a yellow/black (white base) Ski Nautique
just in case someone in this file ever happens to buy one...?
One thought which is a little on the corny side is:
"Bee Skiin Ya"
complete with a pylon equipped bumble bee and
tow rope....

Gee, the last reply in this string was 1991!
Anyone got any suggestions for a new name for a 1997 Ski Nautique?
It's got a light tan base hull color, a medium blue stripe and all the options.
(310 Hp, 4 blade prop, stereo, shower, 3 speed heater....)
Corrective Action Again?
Termination? (wouldn't that come *after* corrective action?)
Babe (isn't that the name of Paul Bunyan's ox, and he's blue, right?)
Ricky's College Fund? :-)
And after skiing behind a '97.
Jus' try hanging on!

After owning boats off and on for about 30 years, I thought the name
on your boat was a personal thing. If you take a suggestion from
someone else, How can you live with yourself knowing its not original?
Someone else is sure to have it also.
I *KNOW* nobody else has the name and graphic thats painted on my
transom, because I have a sick mind and people have told me I am a
disgusting pig after seeing it. My teenagers think its cool!
My wife was a little upset at first, but she got over it.

"ALIEN" blood dripping off the letters and a graphical depiction

large components. If you catch my drift.

| My guess is that it was not the name itself that your wife objected
to. I'd be willing to bet it had more to do with the graphic and those
"large components" as you called them ;-) You're a sick filthy pig. I like
that in a person ;-)

Thanks! bout' time someone noticed.
I will confess that I got the idea of using a graphic from the biker
community. Especially the custom artwork you see at the shows.
Theres something about being a biker and a boater that stirs my soul.
