Well it's about time you beat us, Rob! After all,
the temps are much more bearable in NM than NH.
Decemberrrrrrrrrrrr 7th! Whew!
I'm only a little jealous. No! Hell, I'm a lot jealous!
We poor northerners have to put up with this frozen cold crap
for months while you basque in the sun!
Didn't you "winterize" your boat?
Come on spring!!

| Rob, you make me sick! :-) I guess going out on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1 is
the best way to secure the title of "Last and First Ski of the Year".
Not likely we'll ever be able to even tie for that award, unless we
find some brave soul to take us out on the bay. And speaking of the
bay, I watched the news about those folks down in R.I. (the Polar Bears
I think they're called) who go out for a New Year's Day swim in
Narragansett Bay (for charity I believe). Them folks are hurting
units. I'll watch from my nice warm easy chair, thank you.
Well, ski on Rob. We'll just sit up here in New England and keep
calling you names until we get our first shot at skiing! :-)

OK Guys,
We're gonna need a ruling on this one.
Here goes .....
Rob, What *TIME* did you ski at on Jan 1st ?
I *MIGHT* have you beat ..... and I skied right here in the NE.
I did not ski the 31st so you do have that title.
Regards,
Chuck

| Chuck, we skied at noon.
Rick, yes I sort of winterize it. I unclamp the hoses, drain
the block, and take the water pump out. It takes about five
minutes.

> Chuck, we skied at noon.
Ok here's the scoop. Last Sunday (Jan 1st), I was up at my camp
(Maidstone Lake, Vt.) doing a little snowmobiling when I got this
brillient idea ----- why not take the old wooden water ski's out
of the bunkhouse, knock the fins off 'em, tie an old W-ski tow rope
onto the back of the Kawasaki LTD and do a little frozen water
skiing ---- Now before you scoff this off as a gimick let me throw
in another little fact to consider. Off shore by about 100 feet
or so the lake does not completly freeze. There's about 6 inches
of slush sitting on top of 10 inches of ice and under an insulating
layer of about 4 inches of powder. Let me tell you, when the wife
pulled me through that slush it was just like Water-skiing ! I even
could cut back and forth (although not too much !). I fell twice,
and *THAT* was the big difference with skiing on water. Ouch !
Ok. we need a ruling ! I did this about 2:00 PM in the afternoon.
But ! It was Eastern Standard Time.
What's the verdict ?

228.6 | Rob gets the "official" title | ROGER::GAUDET | Ski Nautique | Wed Jan 04 1989 12:48 | 25 |
| That's a good argument Chuck, but I think we may have to give the title
to Rob. Even though you performed this act of insanity at about the
same time (assuming a 2-hour time difference for mountain time which NM
is supposedly on) that Rob was skiing in NM the reason (which I don't
entirely agree with) for my statement is this. I looked up the
definition of "WATER SKI" in the American Heritage Dictionary. Here's
what they say:
_
Water-ski (w'ter-ske') (n.) Also water ski. A ski used
for gliding over water while being towed by a motorboat.
wa'ter-ski' (v.) -- wa'ter-ski'er (n.)
There is no listing for "WATER SKIING" as spelled. I guess this
dictionary did not take into consideration that "...towed by a
motorboat" is a VERY limited definition of how water skiing can
be performed. We've all seen or heard of or participated in water
skiing behind cars, horses, PLANES (ahem, Don & Co.), etc. so why
the definition doesn't either exclude the method of tow or simply say
"towed across the water" is beyond me.
So I guess "officially" we have to give the title to Rob, although I
think the Noter's Council will have to take up this topic at its next
general session! :-)

I think it has to go to Rob.
If Chuck had been supported by the hydrodynamic forces of water
and not slush, I think it would go to Chuck.
But Chuck can legimately claim that he was the first to be towed
on water skis.
How did you keep your feet warm Chuck?

Do I get a second chance to Bi*ch about the cold?
Well how's this Rob?? Right now the temp is around ZERO,
with the windchill it makes that about 40 below! And on top
of Mt. Washington it's 109 below!
Where's spring????
