2215.0. "home-made dolly for dinghy" by STARCH::HAGERMAN (Flames to /dev/null) Tue May 30 1995 15:44

The boat club on Lake Quinsigamond has a boat house that members can
use to store their own boats. To do so you must have a dolly to roll
the boat around on. Tradition says that dollys are ugly wooden things
    with flat rails.

I would like to try to make a dolly for my Laser that looks like one
of the nifty $350 jobs that you can buy retail. This would solve both
the boathouse problem and could also be used on a beach where cars
    can't go.

My theory is that I can use 2" PVC pipe to make a triangular structure
and supports. I plan to use wheels from Spag's that my son bought for
a school project (they are a little small but will do for now). To
support the hull there will be two vertical posts that extend above
the height of the deck, with some nylon strap connecting them and
forming a sling. For the bow there will be a pair of vertical posts
separated by about 6" with 3/4" tee fittings at the top. The rubrail
on each side of the bow will rest on the tees. The triangular frame
will extend about 6" in front of the bow, just enough to grab onto.

I think this will cost me about $25 (already have the wheels).

Has anybody tried such a project? What happenned?

    Doug.

yes, though I did about the simplest thing possible: a couple of
ex-lawnmower wheels, some sawn-up 2x4's, a couple of bolts and some
screws to hold it together. Not pretty, but it works well.
