Perhaps a sailmaker can do this?

-< Letters for deck Lee cloth >-
Look in the Yellow Pages under "SIGNS" ... these places usually
have PC based design capabilities. They can WYSIWYG almost
any sign you want with wide assortment of style, size, fonts
etc. They can then create your sign in vinyl ... voila! Should
be less than $7.50 per letter. They often do silk screen printing
too.
'Cause, I dunno about adhesive backed vinyl letters on canvas (or
the like). I think I'd still have them stitched. Your local
sail repairer or parachute rigger should be able to do the job.
You could always get something silk screened, but price may be
prohibitive.
Let your fingers do the walking!
Regards,
Keith

| re: 1
Reinhard, before I posted the question here I called Boat US for
advice. They had a sailmaker call me back and informed me that they
did not make this kind of letters for canvas.Yes I could have custom
made cloth letters sewn on it,very expensive proposition.
re: 2
I did call "signs" establishments. They said the same thing.
Stick up letters won't stick on canvas.Silk screening or another
type done by heat(kind of stencil in reverse where you take off the
blue and leave the impressions of letters in white. Price $170.00
for a total of 12 letters in two lee cloths.Price does not include
the lee cloths.
Well, I think I will get the letters in vinyl with or without stick
backing and have my wife sew them on. By the way she doen't know it
yet....
Thanks....Mike K.

2145.4 | Insignia Cloth | SMURF::LIU | | Wed Jul 27 1994 15:03 | 11 |

Try this. They make a material called "Insignia Cloth". It is
shiny white or black, comes 50" wide, and is adhesive backed.
It can be sewn down. About $17 per running yard. Para-Gear
in Skokie, IL carry's it if you can't find it locally. It has
done a good job of sticking to the parachutes I've used it on.
I've also used it as a base to sew contrasting colored stuff
onto, and then stuck the whole thing on a parachute. Worked
real good.
Best of luck.

2145.5 | stencil it cheap | TFH::KTISTAKIS | Mike K. | Mon Aug 08 1994 11:53 | 8 |
| Thanks all that try to help on this one. Here is the latest.
Checking to have stensils made, the price for 6 block letters 10" high was
$ 14.00/ea for a total of $ 84.00 till the guy at Visimark inc in
Worcester asked me why don't I get the whole alphabet set for $ 48.90.
The reason for that low price is that the set is mass produced and
the 6 letters I asked for, would be custom made(same kind of letters
like the set).So I am getting the set this week and anyone who needs
to use this lenth of stencil can borrow the letters they need.
