This is a call to all who love sailing. I am involved with the Regatta Point
Community Sailing club located in Worcester Mass. This club has been mentioned
several times in the conference as "a good place to learn to sail", by more than
just I.... We are a non-profit organization, ie- tax deductable, "DEC" fund
matching qualified, and all the rest. Our primary function is the fostering of
sailing fun, and education for kids (primary) and adults (cause they pay most of
the freight).

enough of the advertisement.....now to the problem....

In a normal year we recieve 68% of our annual budget from adult membership,
5% from the junior program, and the balance from grants, donations, and fund
raisings. This year, because of the economic climate and employment situation
in the state, the grants have all but dried up, donations are way down, and
fund raisings are becoming our only option to meet the ends. This is one attempt
to meet those ends.

	YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE!!
1) if you live in central Mass or Metro West and want to sail or learn to sail,
come join us !! The annual membership (one adult) is $270.00, family membership
is $360.00, and junior summer program is $60.00. (CHEAP, er uhm reasonable)
	Contact me for detail information.

2) If you love sailing and want kids away from the ocean to have the chance to
sail and learn, or want to give something back to the community, please send
us a donation!!! Digital will match any gift (over $25.00 I believe) under the
normal employee contributions program, so you help DOUBLE. (be sure to send a
signed matching funds card)

We aren't going to close up shop due to the dry spell, but we aren't going to
expand our programs either. We do have a policy of "every kid that wants to
sail, WILL if at all possible." and your donations or memberships will allow
that to continue.

	Please help... thank you

PS - Yes I do have a vested interest in this organization, I'm a member, a
racer (did I mention Sunday morning round the bouys racing...), and a sailor
who (re) learned to sail there; but my interest is purely personal satisfaction
(the only money involved goes from me to them....).

    Hi Greg.

Can I use a matching gift form for my regular membership?

    Doug.
1877.2sorry about the wait....ASDS::MOODYA sailboat always has strings attached..Tue Aug 18 1992 17:1310
Doug,
Sorry but the membership itself does not qualify for matching funds,
it is a "dues" payment for usage of the club facilities.
Any "donation" other than membership which is over the Digital minimum
guidelines is "matchable", and as such is tax deductable.

ps - sorry for the late reply, I don't get into this notes file
often enough.....

1877.5Wednesday night racingSTARCH::HAGERMANFlames to /dev/nullFri Jun 04 1993 11:5411
Some members of RPCS are meeting informally for racing practise
on Wednesday afternoons, starting at about 5:00. Very short course,
three or four starts, no trophy, DaySailors. Membership required,
but it's cheap--see a couple of replys back.

Next week the plan is to have Al Fearne, the manager of RPCS,
ex-BU sailing coach, and long-time racer, give an on-the-water clinic.
This is part of the normal series of sailing classes held here
    in Worcester.

    Doug.
1877.6RPCS 1996STARCH::HAGERMANFlames to /dev/nullMon Apr 29 1996 18:3828
The RPCS season has started again, with the usual interruptions during
May for crew regattas. This past winter the whole fleet of Day Sailers
was replaced with new boats, "White 14s". The new boats are much
different from the old ones, particularly in that they're a lot lighter
and smaller--undoubtably better suited for the light winds normally
found on our lake. However, at this time of year it can get pretty
    exciting!

We've already had two Sundays of racing, one Wednesday night informal
race, and lots of sunny days. This is a great way to start sailing
    in a friendly, no-fear environment.

In addition, the club got a Flying Scot as a donation; it's a
fiberglass boat about, what, 23' long? Big for the lake, but it's
a good addition to our eclectic fleet of onesies that also includes
a 110, a Finn, two or three cats, a Lark, a couple of Force 5s, and
a Capri 14. Perhaps a couple of others. It's a cool way to try
a lot of boats out to see what you like.

Also note the insert in yesterday's Sunday Globe (or was it last
Thursday's Calendar?) with a list of a number of various sailing
programs around New England. Many of the community programs have
agreements that allow you to try other locations.

RPCS full year single adult membership (unlimited instruction and
    boat use) is $270.

1877.8Indian LakeSTARCH::HAGERMANFlames to /dev/nullTue Apr 30 1996 17:4514
There were 19 altogether. Most of them went to the sailing program
at Indian Lake in Worcester (north of town, near the YMCA). You can
see them from I190 north of the Greendale mall. RPCS kept a half-dozen
or so. I think the main reason is that there are some evening programs
for adults where the goal is to be totally non-intimidating. Thus if
the wind is blowing at all, the idea is to use the DaySailers (which
are virtually impossible to capsize in the conditions on Lake
Quinsigamond). Also in case somebody wants to use one for old time's
    sake, of course...

I think as state property they had to go through some kind of an
auction process or something--there weren't any private sales...

    Doug.
