Yes, the Gougen Bros. are still there. Are you going to order
DN plans? If so, I have a set already.

re copying plans: Normally naval architects sell plans under the
condition that the plans be used to build only ONE boat. The price of
the plans is in effect a royalty paid to the naval architect. All of the
plans I've purchased have included this condition. It would be unethical
at best to build two or more boats from plans sold this way. The plans sold
by the Gougeon Brothers may or may not include this provision.

The DN iceboat design was circulated by the Detroit News many years
ago. I bet Gougeon Brother's would be thrilled if you built hundreds
of boats from one of their plans - using THEIR epoxy.

re .2

Before ordering DN plans from the U.S. you may wish to check with the IDNIYRA
Europe. There are a few differences between Europe and U.S. regulations, with
the larger differences relating to mast construction. It may be best to source
your plans in Europe and, regardless of where your plans come from, you should
read the class rules before proceeding.

There does not seem be a National Secretary for Ireland, but two references in
Europe are:

	o Europe Commodore
		Wim van Acker
		Dorpsstraat 54 b
		1121 BZ Landsmeer
		Holland

	o England National Secretary
		Chris Williams
		Wingham House
		Bishops Waltham
		Hampshire SO3-1BZ

I have a copy of the 87/88 DN Europe Yearbook and I suggest you obtain a current
copy. It contains a copy of the traditional plans, but you probably want to
obtain a set of modern plans.

In the U.S. the class maintains a list of suppliers (wood, hardware, sails,
and plans) and you may wish to ask about the same for Europe. The above
addresses and names were current as of the 89/90 International Yearbook.

1592.6Update on mast rulesCSSE32::BLAISDELLSun Sep 30 1990 20:2810
re .2, update to .5

The September 1990 IDNIYRA Newsletter includes the minutes of the May 1990
European national secretaries meeting. The minutes state that Europe will now
allow carbon fibre in masts; but veneer masts are ruled out. The U.S. will be
voting on whether to ban veneer masts later this winter. My understanding is
that a U.S. vote to ban veneer mast will bring U.S. and Europe DN
specifications into conformance.
