1512.0. "Searching for the right boat..." by BUOVAX::MICCIO () Mon May 21 1990 22:33

I'm looking to buy a used 38-40' sloop for coastal cruising (2-3
weeks/yr) and local day sailing/weekending. I want a fast boat
(PHRF rating 100-125) with a 5 to 5-1/2 foot draft.

Some candidates I have considered are Ericson 38s and C&C 40s
    (centerboard model).

Does anyone have any experience/opinions on these boats? Anyone
know any owners who want to sell one? Are there any other boats
    I should be considering?

C&C 40's are available relatively inexpensively ($60k or less) with the
tall rig and keel. Don't know about the centerboard model. PHRF is
about 90. I know of one for sale in New Orleans that is beautiful!
    Perfectly maintained.

I just read a For Sale ad which stated that Don Zereski was selling his
    C&C 34' for about $46K. His number is DTN 276 9625

I have seen several Kalik's for sale 40' and 44' for low 70's to 80's.
I do not know their ratings or draft off hand but I understand they are
fairly fast boats and will accommodate cruising well.

I went up to Grandpappy's Marina on Lake Texoma (Texas) earlier this
year and looked at a Tall Rig Ericson 38, 1985 model. The boat
is beautiful and would likely suit your needs well. He was asking $54K
for it. Seems like he was trying to liquidate rather quickly. You might
call information and get the number.
