1253.1 | Let's use last year's format | NETMAN::CARTER | | Wed Jun 21 1989 11:14 | 25 |
| John, the format last year seemed to work well for most of us.
I was a late arrival, but for those who weren't there I'll give
my recollections.
The people who arrived early picked up available mooring(s). As
other people arrived and spotted the "official" burgee of the day,
they rafted up with the other boats, or in the case of a couple
of racers, they anchored out and came in via dinghy.
Each of us was responsible for our our food and beverages. Some
folks had dinghys along, enabling folks to go ashore if they wished.
Everything was extremely informal. People arrived when they felt
like it, ate and drank when they felt like it. Moved from boat
to boat to join the inevitable smaller group rap sessions.
Some people have said Misery can be an interesting island to go
exploring on. I seem to remember some people saying they would
have enjoyed going ashore and maybe cooking there.
I vote for a similar, very informal, easy to "organize" event this
year. And last year's burgee gets my vote, too.

The Halifax race is that weekend but I don't think any of the noters
are involved. I missed last year's raft up and don't want to miss
it again.

Well known and accessible from Gloucester, Salem, Marblehead

Maybe load up the boat with some of you who have sailed with us in the
past (except of course for those who will be bringing their own boats).
Misery Island is a park. I've sailed there many times on a Hobie Cat.
You can walk around in the park, I'm not so sure about cook-outs
though. There will be rangers walking around trying to collect $3 per
person for use of the park (IMO it's a good cause).

I have a few questions about Misery. The raft up sounds good but
the DYC is haveing a Blues tourny that day. I'll be off misery this
Saterday though.
What is the policy regarding camping tent style on the island, I've
only set foot on it once , but that was in Feb of 86 and my mind
is Foggy on the rules.
Can you bring a Grill to cook lobster on the beach, South west side
between the Miserys, We are thinking of doing an overniter with
more people than can sleep on the boat and Camping and diving for
Lobsters sounds like the way to go.
Any suggestions for other Islands?

I don't believe you can either cook or camp on the island. The island
is only "open" till sunset for hiking, sunbathing, and picnicking.
Can someone confirm ????
Some folks will undoubtedly raft up for the evening.
As for the date of the event..... we haven't settled yet. The only
firm suggestion (other than this weekend) has been for Saturday
the 8th or Sunday the 9th. I think its time for a vote.

Lots of talk, but nothing definitive from anyone. Since July the 8th

Misery Island. Same spot as last year.
I will probably not be in attendance as I am leaving for a sailing
adventure to the Cape thru Sunday 9th.
Lets finalize a date by the end of the day Wednesday !

Ok, ok I'll do it. I KNEW I'd get the job of coordinating this annual
affair. To my numerous "friends" that have been endlessly bugging
me... THANKS.
The date for the raft-up...... "We" have a couple of options before
Fall permanently sets in. The date options are:
Sept 9
Sept 16
Sept 23
Sept 30
I've picked a Saturday date because it allows folks to stay the
evening. The location is still Misery Island (the Manchester side).
Voting ends Thursday, September 7th. The date with the most respondents
wins !

September 16 would be my preference. As the previous notes have

Keep in mind that the 9th and 10th are dates for the JYC Regatta Weekend and it
may exclude the racers from attending. They missed out last year, remember.
(There's also a JYC-PYC race on the 16th as well).
