1190.0. "Anyone for the FIGAWI?" by YEAU::BEAU () Thu Apr 27 1989 14:47

    Is anyone interested in racing the Figawi over Memorial Day?
    I'd love to get a DEC fleet into the madness..

1190.1Have fun...AKOV12::DJOHNSTONThu Apr 27 1989 17:4212
    I am amazed at the amount of very positive press this event is getting
    recently. I've done three of them in the hope it will get better
    and have given up totally. The weather usually is not the greatest,
    the party is held in the only industrial area of the island, and
    to be honest, there is only so much fun to be had in a dusty tent
    drinking and drinking and drinking. True, it is a charity event,
    but my strongeset memories are of cleaning puke off the foredeck
    and coming back to my boat and finding a coke deal in progress in
    our cabin merely because we forgot to lock it. What a blast.

1190.2Is that the name of an Indian tribe?FDCV06::DARROWFree mooring in LexingtonThu Apr 27 1989 17:495
        For the uninitiated, just what is the 'FIGAWI'?

    Gee Dave ... Sounds like most of the regatta's I've been to. If
    you can remember what happened, you didn't have enough "fun".

	Its the name of an Indian tribe that often got lost in the fog
	crossing the bays. When that happened the braves could be heard
	calling to the chief, "Where the FIGAWI?".

    Ok, I still don't understand what FIGAWI means, but ya got
    my interest.....

    What are the "particulars" of this event ? What does it take to
    qualify ? Who do I talk to for registration ? ETC, ETC ???

1190.6not sure you can still get in ...BOOKS::BAILEYBtoo much of everything is just enuffMon May 01 1989 09:189
    I'd be surprised if you could enter this race at this date. Last
    season we sent in an application in early April and were told the
    event was "booked". They do limit the number of boats that can
    enter.

    Good luck,

1190.7Too late for this yearAKOV12::DJOHNSTONMon May 01 1989 16:146
    Entry is limited to about 250 boats. The limiting factor is what
    the Nantucket boat basin can hold. What a racket. That plac ewould
    be empty this time of year without this farce of a race.
