1090.0. "Financing recommendations?" by AKOV12::DJOHNSTON () Wed Jan 04 1989 12:28

    Well, it appears that we have found a new boat to continue our dubious
    racing career in. The problem now is finding the most agreeable
    financing. Any suggestions as to lending institutions to check
    out that know what they're about concerning marine loans?

    BTW, the new vessel is a Farr 40 (One Tonner) located in Annapolis
    currently. It is in perfect shape except that we will have the
    hull repainted to suit our tastes. The interior is surprisingly
    complete and very warm looking in wood.

1090.1Maryland National BankMERIDN::PASCUCCIWed Jan 04 1989 16:168
    Try Maryland National Bank in Annapolis. They specialize in Ship
    mortgages and their rates were good when I purchased last year.
    I don't have a number handy but can get it to you if you can't find
    it. By the way, they have brokers in many areas. I live (and bought
    my boat) in Connecticut.

1090.2Try 1st FinancialNETMAN::CARTERWed Jan 04 1989 16:3414
    First Financial treated me pretty well when I bought my boat in
    April. They actually play broker. They place the loans with banks
    which don't care to get involved in qualifying applicants. The
    number for First is, 800-55-first. For what it's worth, Centrust
    Savings in Florida holds my paper. I'll get their address from
    my payment book if you want to try to avoid the broker.

    Good luck with the new boat-and with the financing.

    Any hints what the new one will be called?

1090.4Yegen Was Good!SAGE::WALKER_KWed Jan 04 1989 17:039
    I bought a new boat in September and used Yegen Marine, I did a
    fair amount of shopping around and it seemed to me that their interest
    rate was equal to the lowest I could find. Doing business with them
    from telephone inquiry for information through closing was smooth
    and eay. I'd certainly use them again should I ever buy another
    boat (well, maybe SOME day.....).

    Good Luck!

    We also used Yegen Marine recently to finance our new boat. Their
    service was excellent especially in the area of documentation. I
    shopped rates here in Seattle, and their's was the best.

    	I also used Yegen Marine and found them to be very good. They
    were always very responsive in any requests either before or after
    the closing.
        Since that time I have become good friends with one of their
    agents for the northern N.Y. area and if you have any specific
    questions related to Yegen just pass them along I can check with
    him or get a reference for Annapolis area.

    My loan is also with Yegan. The only problem is that they regularly
    sell your paper - three times in three years.

1090.9Thanks!AKOV12::DJOHNSTONWed Jan 18 1989 14:2211
    Thanks for all the info you guys! We are going thru Yegen as much
    for their convenience as anything. Pretty good rates too. (10.5%)

    As much as I miss Fat Tuesday, it's kind of fun going thru all the
    planning and plotting involved in a new boat purchase. Also reminds
    me how much a partnership makes sense. Not only in the sharing
    of expenses, but in the sharing of all the chores and calls to be
    made.

    Yegan 203-854-1700 in Essex, Ct. We have financed 3 boats thru
    them and have found their deals to be the best and their service
    to be quick and painless.

1090.12New number for Yegan?GAUSS::FGZFederico Genoese-Zerbi -- Flamingo 2D DDXMon Apr 13 1992 11:339

Is Yegan out of business? I tried calling the number in -.1
and got an out of service message, and the directory assistance
did not have anything listed under Yegan in that area code.

Did they move perhaps?
