1033.0. "C&C25 half-hull plans?" by HPTP27::SCHLESS () Mon Oct 31 1988 08:48

    Does anyone know where I can buy plans for a half hull
    of a C&C 25 ? C&C wants to sell me the hull plans for
    the original, which would (I suspect) be very difficult
    to build from.

    Another ouytfit in Maryland will sell me the hull ...12" for
    $160.00

    Ive always made half models form the real boat plans. All you do
    is select a suitable scale factor and work to that. You need only
    the lines drawing, the construction plan is of course useless to
    a half model.

    I would be surprised if a manufacturer would actually sell you a
    lines drwaing. When you ask them for plans, what they most likely
    have in mind is one of those borchure plans which shows the layout
    of all the bunks but no shape, possibly only the outside, overall
    shape.

re .1:

Some designers will sell lines plans -- Robert Perry sold me the lines
plan for our Valiant 32, but he didn't include the table of offsets. I
also had to agree, in writing, not to give or sell the lines plan to
anyone.

1033.3Why not take your own offsets?CDR::SPENCERJohn SpencerMon Oct 31 1988 18:5724
For a fun project, assuming your boat is out of the water, take off the
lines yourself. I'd guess you can do a pretty decent job in a few hours,
good enough to build a much smaller half-model from.

Level the hull fore and aft and side to side (30' 1/4" clear plastic
tubing filled with water and a couple drops of food coloring makes a cheap
and easy to use level), adjusting your popstands or jacking the trailer.
Set up a centerline string and parallel strings at exactly the same
height at max beam to measure from, using a plumb bob and long carpenter's
level.

Depending on hull or bottom color, you can use a dark whiteboard marker or
a bar of ivory (on dark) to mark off each linear foot up, down, and along,
and work up your own relatively accurate offsets (GEFGW - good enough for
government work.) Take some good profile and end-on photos to help
visualize the curves and keel and rudder shape.

Laminate up your block with lifts (layers) cut to the scaled waterline
curves (plus 1/16" for final smootand you'll find it proceeds
surprisingly rapidly. The hardest part is getting a good dust-free
finish!

1033.4Found Them!MURPHY::SCHLESSTue Dec 06 1988 08:3013

    I Ccalled C&C the other day for something and the customer
    svc guy said..."Oh, you re the guy who wanted to do the
    1/2 hull...I think I found some old plans lying around,
    do you want them?" He's sent them, and in my "spare"
    time this winter, I'm going to lay the 1/2 hull out in
    hardwoods.

    The C&C people have been really helpful to me. I'd recommend
    the boat in general, but especially after the service I've
    been getting.
