993.0. "Olympic Sailing..." by LDYBUG::FACHON () Tue Sep 27 1988 11:00

    Has anyone seen any coverage of the Olympic
    sailing? Jobson had a brief report last week.
    VERY rough conditions! The TV footage was excellent
    and action packed -- surfing Solings, flipping Finns, and
    daring rescues. HooBoy!! Infinitely more interesting than
    the recent Cup, and in many ways better than Perth. I wish
    they'd give it some live coverage.

    I'm not at all sure about current standings. Anyone
    know the latest?

    Dean

993.1It looked real exciting ...MPGS::BAILEYBMay the 4 winds blow u safely homeTue Sep 27 1988 12:0313
    Saw about 5 minutes of coverage Saturday evening. 25-30 knots of
    breeze and 6-8 foot seas. Looked real exciting! Wouldn't have wanted
    to be out there trying to jibe in those conditions.

    An interesting note. While watching the footage, a good friend of mine
    who grew up in St Thomas suddenly recognized a high school buddy as
    being the skipper of the Finn that was representing the Virgin Islands.
    Says she, "anybody can represent the VI in the Olympics, all you have
    to do is pay your own way". Coincidentally, her old buddy won the
    race.

993.2US Olympic Sports Festival '90MORO::SEYMOUR_DOYou have a pool over there?Mon May 21 1990 17:378
    Any Minnesota sailors out there? I've been invited to compete at the
    US Olympic Sports Festival, Yachting, on Lake Minnetoka (?) near
    Minneapolis July 5-13. I'll be racing in the Divison II Sailboard
    class and any information on water temperature and wind
    conditions would be very welcome. Also competing will be women's
    Europa Dingy, the new Olympic class which is like a minature Finn.

    Thanks,  Don
993.3Goodwill GamesRIPPLE::KOWALSKI_MAJust another roadside attractionFri Jun 22 1990 12:035
    Anyone interested in seeing the Goodwill Games yachting events in
    Seattle, Aug 3-4? I have a pair of tickets for both days for the
    spectator boat which I won't be using. The venue off Shilshole will be
    off-limits to private yachts due to security so the only way to view
    the events close-up is TV or the spectator boats. Mark 206/952-0618
