In have mentioned in a couple of notes recently that I had purchased a 20 year old Pearson Coaster (30 Feet). This boat is documented with the hailing port of Milwaukee. What must be done to Change the name and the hailing port from the MOREY'A DHU/Milwaukee to SQUIRE PUFFIN/Portland Maine? How long will it take and What kind of expense am I looking at? Also, how do you remove the painted name and hailing port from the stern, the hull has been Immroned? Thanks Paul

re .0 >> Also, how do you remove the painted name and hailing port from >> the stern, the hull has been Immroned? Paul, My hull was imronned too. I found that paint could be removed by having a larger boat bang against the Imron. The boat that did mine did a real spotty job. If you want to do the whole stern you'll probably have to coach the other guy to make sure he does a better job than my turkey did. What type of paint was used for the name and hailing port? Imron and Awlgrip are not damaged by acetone. The usual paint used for names can be removed easily with acetone.

On documentation...either in the Nynex directory or the tides book there is information on documentation. I believe there is a $100 charge for renaming a boat once documented. Beau

I redocumented PUFFIN from the Rockland, Maine office (Rockport, ME hailing port) to the Gloucester, Mass office (& hailing port.) Back around 1980, it took a full year, but cost nothing. Rumor has it that the process is somewhat more efficient these days -- and maybe they charge for that now, too. John. |
