794.0. "Where to get repairs?" by IAGO::SCHOELLER (Who's on first?) Thu Apr 14 1988 13:47

I've got a Chrysler Man 'O War whose hull cracked while trailering.
I am not much for doing fiberglass repairs. Does anyone have any
suggestions on where I could get such repairs done in the Boston
suburbs and what I should expext to pay? The cracks are about
8" long, on both sides. I am not sure if they can be covered or
would need to be cut clean and filled.

On a related note, does anyone have suggestions where to get parts
to modify my trailer so this doesn't happen again. The weight needs
    to be better distributed.

If you can get at the cracks from the inside of the hull, repairing them
is really quite easy and you could do the repairs yourself. Try the
Yellow Pages or call some local boatyards to get the names of some
professional repairers.

I am by no means an expert. To distribute the load, perhaps change
the block behind the hook,(HOPEFULLY THERE IS ONE) to cover more
space vertically along the hull. This would distribute the weight
over a larger surface. Check with the local boat dealers too.
They will sometimes have cards and the like of people who do repairs.

Here is the address that I got when inquiring about surveyor at
a boat yard north of Hampton Beach NH.

I don't know anything about this place, but if they don't do it,
the likelyhood is that they will know someone who would.

I have been pointed at 627.1 for a suggestion on repairs (thanks
Ralph). I am going to check it out. Getting at the inside of
the Man O' War hull is near impossible and the cracks are under
the floor of the cockpit :^{(.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to permanently modify
the trailer so it doesn't happen again.
