737.0. "Flags and Accessories" by DSSDEV::JROBINSON () Sat Jan 30 1988 16:45

Where around the New Hampshire area can you find small flags? I've
been looking for a New Hampshire flag, about 12 by 18 inches, and
no one seems to stock them. I'd also like to find flags for other
countries (Honduras, for example). Any suggestions?

In addition to places to buy flags, this note might be a good place
to list your favorite accessory stores.

A college classmate of mine has a dad who runs a flag store in Concord
    N.H. It is H.A. Holt & Sons 39 South Street, Concord (603) 225-6261.

Their Ad int he yellow pages lists "U.S. and State Flags, Historic
    Flags, Custom Flags Made.

If you can get to Newport, try Flying Colors on Thames Ave. They are
at the larger boat shows and have a large selection of international
flags as well as custom work.

We have 4 of their flags, all cloth, no dyes or screening. Good
    quality.

There is/used to be a place in Porter Square, Cambridge, called the Flag
Center, I believe. They seemed to have *everything*.

Also, I was surprised to find a large state flag collection plus some
other countries, and signal pennants, at E.G.Washburne on Rt 114 in
Peabody, MA between Rt 1 and Rt 128 (closer to Rt 1).

The flag center has exited Porter Square; its former location is
now an MBTA station. Current whereabouts given as 2267 Mass Ave
(hope this isn't the old address...)

Hmm, the Flag Center address is close to its old location; maybe
I'm wrong about the move. Anyway, here is the phone number:

    	617-868-2026 or 617-876-1040 or 617-876-8226

Thanks for all the suggestions. Here's what I found:

o Holts, in Concord NH, has an interesting variety of flags in
stock. They have New England state flags and US flags in
various sizes, and a few of the usual decoration flags
(like a martini glass). Your best bet is to get there on
a weekday--while they say they're open Saturday mornings,
they were closed when I tried.

o The Flag Center, on Mass Ave near the Cambridge/Somerville
line (across from "the big church," the man said), seemed
to have a good selection, but I can only tell you what I saw
through the window. Again, they said they were open on
Saturdays, but not the Saturday I tried. This was during the
Boston sailboat show, so when they were closed I figured they
were manning a booth at the show. But I found no booth, and
a jogger who came by while I was window shopping asked me if
the place was ever open at all. He said he passed it every
day and never saw anyone there. The big "Help Wanted" sign
that filled half the window might have been a reason why.

o Boats and Motors is a place in Revere (I think) that I found at
the boat show. They sent me a price list from a company named
Johnson, and it had the best variety that I've found (for example,
foreign flags in 18 in-by-24 in sizes, as well as a service
to make your private signal for you). Boats and Motors was
the only place that had Johnson's list--everyone else had catalogs
from other manufacturors who had a smaller selection.

Again, thanks for your help, everyone. I hope this reply will be
    useful to someone in return.
