527.0. "O'Day parts" by NCVAX1::BLACK () Tue Apr 07 1987 11:46

Does anyone have a source for O'Day (or generic) parts - I have
an old WIDGEON and need a bottom plug (or 2 or 3) - local dealers
    can't seem to source one.
This is basicly a plastic bolt (with the same threads as a 1/2 "
bolt) and would have either a flat head or no head with a way to
put it in and remove it (slot, Phillips, allen wrench) etc.
I'm using a stainless steel 1/2" bolt but the head os really tough
    on my feet!
    DTN is 442-2024
Of course we can sail in Minnesota!

You can get them from the factory at

    		848 Airport Road
    		Fall River, Mass 02720-4793
    		1-617-678-5291

The only other source I use is

    		Gauche Bros Marine
    		Boston Post Road (RTE 20)
    		Shrewsbury, Mass 01545

I was able to get parts for our old daysailer pretty easily so
one of them should be able to help.

if there is a hobie cat dealer around, you may check with him. it
sounds just like the nylon bolt in the bottom of the rudder
assembly used to tension the rudders in the water (they kick
    backward when they hit land).

527.4More O'Day StuffNCVAX1::BLACKWed Apr 22 1987 16:2014
Just to let you folks know that I used some of this info - I wrote
to O'Day - they don't have the part anymore; so now I'm trying the
other sources mentioned here ... but ... I did learn that O'Day is
now owned by Starcraft (which should be okey) ... but ... Starcraft
is owned by Leer Seigler (SP ?) which maybe explains why Starcraft
quality is not what it used to be (at least in tent trailers)

Also found that my daysailer is a 1966 vintage - it's fiberglass
and still works fine - wood is ok too (I'm building a Bolger Elegant
Punt) but all you wood boat fans shouldn't classify all glass boats
    the same!

    Hmm,

I don't get a phone listing for either oday or starcraft in fall
river. I gather this stuff is out of date. Anyone know where they
    are now?

Didn't the remains of O'Day get wrapped together with Laser and
Sunfish? I think they did, and the phone number may be in the Laser or
    Sunfish entries in here somewhere...

527.8If Rudi does not have it, he will know where to get it!!USDEV::OLSALT::DARROWWe are gonna make it!Tue Oct 04 1994 14:0729
Rudy Nickerson of D&R Enterprises (Debbie and Rudi) worked for ODay and was there
purchasing department when they closed. He then went with the ODay line to
Pearson. When Pearson closed, Rudy bought all the spare parts he could
at the auction and started a business out of his cellar(and back yard).

If he did not have the part, he knew where it had come from and had the ability
to get it.

More recently he has obtained the molds and rights to several ODay hulls and is
currently building some on a custom basis.

He has a retail shop in Assonet, MA and is a GARHAUER Rep. His prices on
Garhaurer gear are the best around and considerably less than the major brands.

I have used his services via phone, credit card and UPS and have been quite
pleased.
