| I believe there are still lessons being taught out of
Manchester. I think the lake being used is Massabesic Lake
but will look into.

| If you live in or near Boston you can always try Community Boating
Incorporated or better known as CBI. They charge $120 a year membership
but you can take the boats out as much as you want for nothing beyond
that. They start you out as if you know nothing and teach you very
well. I highly recommend them. They are located on 21 Embankment Rd
in Boston or on the Boston side of the charles river in the Charles
river park.

There has been (assume still is) instruction available on Lake Quinsigamond
in Worcester. We checked it out but were too far away for it to be useful.
The place is known as Regatta Point, and seems to be a state park or
reservation of some kind. It is located down the hill from UMASS medical
center. It is very similar to Community Boating in Boston in that it is
a nonprofit group requiring a membership fee, but largely free.
I've found the folks to be friendly, the boats and facilities to be fairly
well kept.
The part of Quinsigamond that Regatta Point is located on is fairly narrow
but opens up not far from the dock.
The sailing there seems fairly tricky due to wind shifts from the surrounding
hills, but for those interested in gaining "wind sense" quickly, this should
be invaluable.
Check it out if you live in the Worcester Massachusetts area.
Regards.
Jerry.

| The boats at Regatta Point are O'Day Javelins, 14 ft day sailers which are
great boats to learn on. If you are a beginner they will not let you use a
jib for a while, but "one sheet at a time" I guess..
My old roommate tooks courses there on Thursday during the summer, and loved
it. One problem is that Regatta Point is located right near the bridge that
goes across Quinsigamond to Shrewsbury at the White City plaza. The masts on
the boats are 24 ft and won't go under the bridge, so you don't have as much
of the lake to sail on as you might like.
Agreed, check it out.

| The O'Day Javelin IS a great boat to learn on. If you haven't yet found
lessons, i have a Javelin on Lake Boon in Hudson and would be glad to let
you try it out (always looking for an excuse to sail). I'm no expert but could
get you started with lake sailing. I can be reached at USMRW6::RNICOLAZZO

| The sailing club at Regatta Point on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester
is open for the season. My wife and I decided to join this year
for several reasons: to have a place to launch my Laser, so we can
both take some lessons, so we can use a boat that the whole family
can go out in, and so she can park there instead of paying to park
at her work...
I went out yesterday for about an hour (in one of their O'Days--too
cold for Lasering yet, if you ask me). Nice breeze, had to dodge
the racing shells...
Doug.
