| | It's great for generating 15 minutes of peace in a house filled with
small children. Just take jar out of fridge, open it, set it on table,
and say "who wants a special treat?". The rest is pure magic.
Aside from that, we haven't found much use for it other than the
obvious spread on bread or crackers.

| | It has been a standard, everyday snack in Spain for ages...
it is great spread over a nice piece of french bread, my Mom always
gave me a nice glass of mild and a large slice of bread with Nutela
when I came home from school... (oh, those wonderful days!) I now give
it to my children when I find it.

Diluted with a little bit of milk and poured over icecream is also
great, but my favorite is just that, spread over fresh, crusty bread!

| 3036.6 | breakfast topping | ENABLE::GLANTZ | Mike 227-4299 DECtp TAY Littleton MA | Thu May 09 1991 09:40 | 12 |
| | The mess ... well as we're constantly cleaning up messes, it hardly
  makes a dent.
But kidding aside, reply .4 from Italy did suggest another very nice
use: as a waffle or pancake topping. Before Children, we used to do
Sunday brunches and invite a dozen or so friends over. One of the main
courses was a waffle and pancake buffet, with "roll your own"
toppings, like fresh fruit, fruit preserves, honey, and maple syrup
for the sweet toppings, and an assortment of savory toppings. I don't
recall that we ever used Nutella as one of the sweet toppings, but it
sounds like a great idea. We also had lemon curd, which is an English
treat I haven't seen much in the States.

| | I happen to like it on croissants, or if you're making your own spread
it on the dough and then roll it. I also agree with previous reply that
mentioned spreading it on a crusty bread (yum!), or by the spoonfuls (a
chocolate lovers dream!!). Some of the other ideas sound tasty too,
guess I'll have to pick up a jar at the grocery store next time I go.
Gosh now I won't be able to stop thinking about it (never read this

| | It's also available in the Pheasant Lane Mall in Nashua, NH. I can
never remember the name of the store, though. It's a deli-like place
not far from the food court (as you head toward Jordan Marsh/Lechmere,
it's on the right). I've never broken down and bought it, because I'm
afraid that I, too, will eat it by the spoonful out of the jar!!

| | There's also a note on Nutella in the Chocolate file. It's becoming
available in a lot of supermarkets - Market Basket for one. Spags also
    has it on occasions.

Try dunking some of those Pepperidge Farms pirouette cookies in a jar
of Nutella. Or, spread some Nutella over the top of a brownie if you
are into instant sugar shock! :^)

Want a really decadent dessert? Make meringues in the shape of little
tart shells, put in a spoon of your favorite ice cream, and drizzle
with nutella. It's great with Ben and Jerry's Chunky Monkey or Vanilla

Nutella hard to find in Germany,
                            everywhere to find in USA

there. It is cheaper than peanut butter and my german grandmother
always had it. It is hard to find over here, and when you do it
costs alot. We always spread it on the wonderful german bread they

I must admit that I think Nutella tastes pretty good, especially on
ice cream as previously mentioned. Beware though, 50% of the calories
come from fat, and it's very saturated fat. I didn't note what a
serving size is, but on the bottle I have at home, it's 9 grams fat,
and 160 calories per serving. The first ingredient listed is Palm oil
which is one of the most highly saturated fats available. In moderation
this is definitely tasty stuff, but I wouldn't make it a daily part of
    my diet.

BTW, I also think Idylwilde Farms in Acton sells Nutella if it hasn't
    already been mentioned.

yes, it's good, but it's not white truffles, you know.
What would you say if we came up with a recipe for it? It can't be
that difficult. How about pureeing some hazelnuts and mixing with a
milk chocolate syrup? Maybe even add a little frangelico liqueur or
  something.

Milk chocolate + pureed hazelnuts = my recipe
Not bad for a guess, huh? I only missed the emulsifier (which you
wouldn't need if you could get it smooth by yourself, and which is
already in some chocolates). Then I suggested adding Frangelico ... I
  think my recipe wins.
Another idea would be to add Grand Marnier instead of Frangelico. That
  sounds even better.

| | Hello,

I just saw this note and I want to add something to it. I write from
Italy and I grew up with Nutella as well as my children are. Generally
we spread it on fresh bread, but we put it in cakes as well. Other
companies have tried to create a different kind of Nutella but I still
believe it is the best chocolate spread of all.
Another thing I do: I make some shortbread, make it like a tart and
spread Nutella on top of it, then put it in the oven.

The price of Nutella is in Italy (for the big jar) around $2.

It really doesn't need to be refrigerated as it keeps for a long time.
Actually I believe that in the refrigerator it loses some flavor.
It could happen sometimes that you see a little layer like oil, but
that is OK, just need to stir it.

Hope this answers some of your questions.

    Ciao

    Marinella

I enjoy mine any way I can! Made an angel food cake this weekend,
melted some Nutella, poured it over and then topped with fresh whipped
    cream.

And yes, I am going to aerobics tonight!

| | We add it to our favorite chocolate frosting recipe. Straight Nutella is a
bit expensive (and a bit rich) to use as frosting, but it adds a really nice
flavor to frosting. It mixes well with coffee flavoring, too, which is
good, since we always add coffee to anything chocolate...

I must have licked that spoon for 10 minutes. My wife kept asking me
what I was doing in the kitchen. The look of satisfaction on my face must
have been one only she was privy to in the past. I have been scouring
the stores for this stuff ever since seeing it in this file. When I
I saw it on the shelf I nearly killed three people in the aisle
getting to it. I found it at the PACE merchandise warehouse in
Manchester this past weekend. I think the price was simiar to that at
SPAGS about $2.99. I am visiting friends in NJ next weekend and plan
on bringing them a jar. Can't wait to see the look on their faces when
    they taste it.

| | I second that!! A friend brought some over this weekend (he'd already
finished his bottle) and we had it with brownies ala mode. We only used
a portion (1/3) of the jar, so the next day (I'd put it in the fridge
overnight) I used a knife and scraped the rest out! WOW! I haven't seen
it in my area (Leominster) but will start looking!

Whoever started this note should be commended. Life without Nutella,
    I've discovered, is seriously lacking.
