358.0. "APPLE: Baked Apples" by BAGELS::LANE () Tue Sep 30 1986 16:31

I have just started a diet, but love apple pie. Does anyone
have any recipes that are low-cal? Any other good low-cal
apple recipes would be great too!!!!

    Thanks,

    DEBBI,

I AM A COMPULSIVE DIETER, ONE WAY TO ENJOY THE APPLE HARVEST IS
TO PREPARE WITH FEW ADDED CALORIES, LIKE SO:

CORE THE CENTER OUT OF AN APPLE, SPRINKLE 1/3 PCKT OF SWEET/LOW,
CINNAMON AND NUTMEG, BAKE FOR 1/2 HOUR AT 350. I IMAGINE YOU COULD
SLICE UP AND PUT IN A CASSEROLE DISH, TASTES JUST LIKE THE FILLING
WITH NO ADDED CALORIES TO THE FRUIT.

If you have a microwave oven, a quicker and easier way to prepare
the preceeding recipe is to microwave the apple(s). It only takes
about 3-5 min per apple in our microwave. You will probably want
to cook it about 3 min and check the doneness, then cook 1 min,
check, cook 1 min, check etc until it's done, since your oven is
likely a different power. (ours is pretty old) This also works
with bananas - slice a banana and put it in one of those little
pyrex custard dishes, sprinkle with your choice of sweeteners, add
a little cinnamon and any other spice you like, and microzap for
about 2-3 min. both of these dishes are good with brown sugar,
for those not on diets (or those who are cheating).

I found a good way to eat up a few apples although I'm really
not sure how fattening it is. I mixed up a small batch of a whole
wheat pancake mix that I purchased in a health food store, it used
1/2 cup of pancake mix. Pour into a greased pie plate, Peel and
slice one apple and drop into pie plate. Top with cinnamon and
nutmeg. Bake 350 for 20 mins or until golden brown. There is no
sugar in it so it isn't sweet and if you can avoid maple syrup
    it probably isn't too fattening.
