This sounds something like what we have here in the states for baseball and
football....turns out that it has mushroomed to the point where there are leagues
you can join and win rather large amounts of cash. I have played this type of
format for one season with American football and it was a lot of fun - got
very involved and serious rather quickly. Trading deadlines, posting your
roster for the week, keeping track of injuries etc......

I know people like Tommy Doc, Mrs Webb? and also Eddie Large are

a time when many of us are either playing or watching live football.

272.8 | RULES | SUBURB::WAITEG | WE HATE WEST HAM | Wed Nov 25 1992 10:30 | 45 |
| Rules....
1. You pick a team of eleven players from the football league.
2. This must include - one goalkeeper, two defenders, three
midfielders and five attackers.
3. The league formation is simple. When an outfield player scores in
his respective match your team is awarded 1 point.
4. If your goalkeeper lets a goal in then your team is deducted one
point.
5. If your goalkeeper is sent off in his match then whoever replaces
him in goal for that match counts as your goalkeeper.
6. Name one sub so if an outfield player is injured he can replace him
in the next match.
7. League working outs should be done either once a week or once a
month. Once a week would be easier.
8. If we decide to do this league then I suggest we stick to one
league eg... Premier League or Division 1
9. Your team needs a name, so print that above your team selection
10. If we decide to do it then each person shoud lay out their team
like this.
Queens Park Celtic F.C
Number Posistion Name Real Club
1 G David Seaman Arsenal
2 D Rob Jones Liverpool
And so on......
I will be very happy to help run this league if we decide to do it.
Any comments would be welcome.

| Sounds like this could be fun.
However, before we make any further progress, how's about getting some
interest factor first, so all those interested, reply to this topic.
I would say that to make it worthwile we'd need at least 10-15 people min.
I'd also be willing to help run the league.
>>8. If we decide to do this league then I suggest we stick to one
>> league eg... Premier League or Division 1
I'd suggest that we make it both the Scottish & English premier leagues to allow
those North of the border to have more interest.

The trouble with having the Scottish league, is it will be easy for
someone to pick the whole Rangers side and they would probabley win it
with that.
If we include the Scottish league, may I suggest that we can't pick
more than three players from one side.

How about only 2 Outfield players allowed from the same team, the goalkeeper
being allowed to make up the 3rd??
Al

272.14 | | SUBURB::WAITEG | WE HATE WEST HAM | Wed Nov 25 1992 11:50 | 13 |
| I think the two outfield players from one side will make it more
interesting.
We could also have a cup competition when the 3rd round of the FA and
Scottish get under way.
I think when people start entering their teams then, more people will
become intrested.
Do you think the first week should be on Saturday or should we wait
another week.

However, maybe a trial run this week to get used to playing wouldn't be a

If not how should we decide who gets him??

| I generally listen to the show on sunday, mainly to hear the comments of Tommy
Doherty. The rules generally seem more complicated to me with points awarded for
assists, clean sheets etc.
I am sure also that within the league each player can be picked only once, each
manager buying his players and that transfers are allowed.
Are people interested in setting up a watered down version or is there interest in a
fully fledged edition. Should it be run as a seperate notefile, I am sure that I can provide
the resources.

2 Goalkeepers
3 Defenders
4 Midfielders
6 Attackers
However if your goalkeeper gets sent off then whoever replaces him in
goal for his real team counts as your goalie for that match. You can
change your squad before each game if you wish. So for example if you pick
(Shearer) who hasn't scored for so many games, you can change him for
(Rush) who was your sub. Though you can't change a midfielder for an
attacker and so on.........

| Howdy,
This here is Elvis talking to you. I would like to announce
Athletico Elvis FC as the founder member of the "big five" clubs
of this here "Fantasy League". In time honoured fashioned, we as
members of the big five will seek to line our own pockets at the
expense of smaller clubs, secretly negotiate preferential TV
deals, inflate transfer fees to ridiculous levels and pay wages
the size of third world debts to uninspiring cloggers.
Furthermore we are committed to the cynical exploitation of
devoted fans which includes everything from new strips every 6
months (that current Vegas rhinestone shirt is well worth the
99.00 if I'm might say so) to the unnecessary redevelopment of
our famous Gracelands Stadium. And at 10,000 pounds the Elvis
Bond is surely great value. For that price you re-build our
stadium, get ma name on your seat for the next 1000 years and
recieve a personally signed certificate and honourary FBI
sherrif's badge. But you still have to buy a season ticket. Dang,
that's good value!
See y'all
Elvis, AEFC manager and King.

272.83 | brainstorming ideas | ELIS::GEELEN | | Fri Nov 27 1992 14:04 | 45 |
| Since the overwhelming participation, perhaps we could adjust the rules a bit ?
What about a league with a max number of teams (say 30).
And than a list of 600 players which al cost a certain number of points.
Each team starts of with a standard number of point, with which they have
to buy their team of sixteen players.
An example of the transfer list :
Keepers Minimum price
T Snelders 30pts
D Seaman 40pts
.
.
Strikers
I Rush 75pts
A Shearer 100pts
.
.
A team can for instance start of with 2000 point.
When a player is bought he gets removed from the transfer list, so that
a player can only play in one team.
When more teams want the same player, than the highest bidder will get him.
When a team wins they get bonus point so they can 'buy' new players.
They can also put a player on the transfer-list for a number of point, so
that you can make room for the new player or raise the number of cash you
have to buy an expensive player in the future.
This way you can get rit of a bad player in your team.
Before the week-end each team-manager has to enter his 13 players that are
going to play in the next match.
What do you think of this ??
Or is it to much administration ?
Jeroen.

Sounds good but I don't think the current notesfile is the place to do
this. In fact, as it currently stands, the Fantasy Football League
merits a conference of it's own. This on top of the existing, and
seemingly endless predictions notes, would drive a few people up
the wall.

I'd like to thank Rob Anderson and Dave Wilson for keeping me off the
bottom of the table.......
But seriously, big thanks to Al for all his hardwork this season and to
all the other moderators for doing their bit.

272.113 | A new season looms | FORTY2::ROBERTSON | Living with Flamingos on the DELTA | Fri Jul 02 1993 11:37 | 14 |
| Well it's time to think of the new season, sorting out the teams, and working
out any changes to the rules.
To start with, the rules are the most important. If you have any requests,
ideas, critisms, please enter them in note 6 of The fantasy football conference.
I will put a deadline of 16th July for any changes, as I may have to modify the
program to incorporate them.
Please do not enter any teams until after this time.
Best of luck in the Fantasy football season '93-94

| Talking of fantasy football, perhaps it might be nice to post the final table
here for the benefit of those that aren't in the comp. I would do it, but
modesty forbids. 8-)
Sorry, but I've never been a good winner. 8-)

decided. And my chap did rather well.
