Well after a promising past couple of weeks, with victories
over The Sheep(we only had ten men again for that game) and The
Tims, we played hosts to newly promoted Falkirk.
Before ten minutes had gone by we were two down. The first of
these looking rather like a foul on the keeper but then again
I'm biased, the second was a blatant cock up by the defence and
     that idiot keeper of ours.
It was from there on that the writing was on the wall,it looked
as if The Bairns were going to score 7 or 8 but lucky Hamilton
started to find a bit of form, with a fantastic one-handed save to
a curling Stainrod shot. But then Totten decided to bring wee Allan
Moore on after 37mins of constant Falkirk pressure, immediatley
there was difference in the Perth Men.Two minutes after the
substitution the referee blue his whistle and everybody in the park
including the Car Park attendants thought it was off-side but no Mr
McGinlay was pointing to the penalty spot(no-one knows what for)
and Mark Treanor duly converted the penalty. Then from the Kick
off comes what has to be the goal off the season,Stainrod ran up
to the centre circle and asked Mcallister to just touch the ball
forward then the next thing I saw was Hamilton back peddling two
or three steps from his eighteen yard line then stopped in
amazement and watched the ball sail into the back of the net from
this 50 yard effort(surely a lesson to be learnt there). 3-1 at
half-time and the Home side looked down and out,but to there credit
they came out into the second half with all guns blazing.Attack after
attack was foiled by Westwater(or is it P**swater)and his defence until
in the 82nd minute the pressure paid off with Moore having the simplest
of headers from a Cherry cross. The last 8 minutes Saints poured everything
they had into a last ditch equaliser but to no avail.

In the First half Saints made too many mistakes at the back and left
themselves far too much work to do in the second half.

I think they have to buy another defender, plus a target man to play
     alongside Maskery.

Perth Man(happy too stay up after the start we've had)

Well Rangers at home on saturday.......I don't think that
the Huns will be happy after the game, with all those first
team players missing, plus we always tend to try and kick them
off the park every time they're up.

61.10A trying few questionsSCOAYR::BCOUGHTRIEFri Oct 11 1991 11:5310
I find it difficult to remember the last time they played them OTHER
than last season at Perth, far less remember a win......have Rangers
ever played Saints since the famous great escape in the Scottish cup
in approx 1981 ?, with the exception of last season obviously.

That would then lead to the question..........when was the last time
Saints beat Rangers in Perth ?

                                                           Brian.

St Johnstone will play just as many games as celtic in europe this
season. I mean celtic maybe in a european competion but all they'll
do is turn up make an fool of themselves then go back out of europe
without playing any football cos they're not up to much.

note the lack of bad language..

I heard a "murmur" that Paul Sturrock collapsed at last weeks game!
Is it also true that as a result of this the team lost heart in
    particular the "attackers".
61.14Sekerlioglu -> St. JohnstoneVNACO1::HERIBERTTue Dec 05 1995 12:5610
The first Austrian player in Scotland: Sekerlioglu (no typical Austrian name)

age: 31 (FC Tirol)

no game playing in Austrian team

no one of the best Austrian players - interesting, why Paul Sturrock
has bought him.

Well that doesn't matter because St. Johnstone are not one of the
    best Scottish teams ...

But it's good to see a bit of ambition in the smaller clubs in
Scotland. It's also good to see Paul Sturrock back in the managers
chair after his recent bad illness btw.

You most certainly did. In fact I do not think he played for any
other club in his playing career. He played a few times for Scotland as
    well.

In a macabre sort of way it was rather ironic his semi heart attack
happening as he has been a health and fitness fanatic all his life. He
is only late 30s now I think. Whereas someone like me who gets no
exercise, drinks only to excess and is not adverse to the odd fag now
and again enjoys the rudest of health.

It's a funny old game Saint.

I don't understand football world any longer.

Austria's Sekerlioglu was selected as player of the day in his first
game in Scotland (ag. Dundee 0:0).

What has he done in Austria the last 10 years ?

I take it you mean man of the match. They showed some highlights of
the game and certainly he did play very well and nearly scored a couple
of times. He looked big and strong but not without a little bit of
skill as well. He was an immediate hit with the fans too.

They interviewed him at the end and he came over as a nice guy with
a sense of humour. He said his name translates to "Sugar Boy" but I
don't know what language it is !
