688.0. "gobblegegook?" by COMICS::DEMORGAN (Richard De Morgan, UK CSC/CS) Tue Jun 27 1989 16:53

    From another NOTESfile, quoting a DIGITAL spokesman:

    "I don't know if I would agree with it exactly the way you said
    it".

    Well does he agree or not?

Well, I guess he agrees, but inexactly.
688.2gobbledyanswerCHEFS::BUXTONWed Jul 12 1989 15:4816
    It's plain that he dosn't agree.

    He is either too polite or frightened to come right out with it
    and say in plain language that he thinks 'it' rubbish and that he
    dosn't agree.

    He says he, 'dosn't know if he would agree'. This says either,
    he has yet to make his mind up ( in wich case he should have said
    so) or that he does know but he believes there is an expectation
    that he *should* agree but can't bring himself to say so for some
    reason.

    By-the-by: gobbledygook (sl) pompous nonsense - which describes
    this response and most DECspeak rather accurately!

    Bucko...

    When the gobbledygook gets technical, I prefer the word "cybercrud".

    Is that what they call a transitionative verb?
