514.0. "A masochist writes ....." by ULYSSE::WADE () Tue May 03 1988 18:50

I'm told that this conference is "just the place for a smart-ass
like me to get his smart ass kicked". I think my reply [below,
re-posted from kernel::euro_forum] is impeccable and rather
	witty. Don't you agree?

	Jim :-)

Sure. I think what you *meant* to write was
"Bearing in mind that the Corporate language
is English ... can someone please translate?"

I never would have said such a thing unprovoked; however, bearing
in mind that you did ask:

    Impeccable, yes.

    Witty, no.

     I had heard that as

"A sadist is someone who is nice to masochists."

I couldn't figure out if that meant the sadist would
be nice by doing as the masochist requested or by being
gentle, etc. You seem to be voting for the second.

Your parenthetical remark should be enclosed in (parentheses) [sic],
not in [brackets] [sic], which are reserved for words inserted to
clarify the meaning of a partial quotation, and words like [sic]
    [sic].

Just to give you a flavour, Jim, of what to expect in this file

To clarify: Jim and I are old friends. I thought I would welcome
him to this conference in the time-honoured fashion.
.4 was deliberately over the top :-) :-)
