    One of these day's I'm gonna find a Mantle at a yard sale and pick
    it up for a buck. (see pipe dreams and if wishes were fishes) A

    Tony can confirm this but I believe Mantle first appeared on a card
    in 1951 in the Bowman series, his last card was 1969 Topps ( thats
    if your only counting regular issue).

    The cards I saw at Halls were NOT 1952 Topps (I know what THEY look
    like).  They had the name in a small black box and were in a horizontal
    format so I would assume they were 1951 Bowmans.  The price seems
    a little out of line, though.

    Aside from Becketts, SCD, CCP, ect.. what can one expect to pay
    for Ex-NM #200 1963 Mantle?   I'm putting together a 63' set and
    sooner or later I'm going to need one (and #537/Rose Arrrrggh!!)

        I really can't tell.  The baseball card market seems to be going
    crazy the last few years.  I'm still trying to figure out why prices
    are becoming so unstable.
    
        Only one piece of advice.  Shop carefully.  When prices are
    fluctuating like they have been you can find some wild discrepancies
    between the prices given by various dealers.

    I don't want to get "caught up" in the investor syndrome of this
    hobby but ...... i thought I saw that the 1965 Mantle card I have
    (mint condition or close) is worth about $350. Could this be 
    true ? I thought I saw this value in the June edition of the Beckett
    Monthly.
    
    According to my last year's price guides, this card was only worth
    about $45-$50.

    The SCD Baseball Card Price Guide lists the '65 Mantle
    card, in NM condition at $300, as of several months ago,
    so $350 sounds about right now, as the guides go.  From
    my own memory at shows, it sounds to me like its the right
    ballpark price.

    I have a 68 Mantle card, However the back is a little defaced.
    How much does the value drop. I stuck it in a scrap book when

    The same SCD guide lists the '68 Topps Mantle at $125 in
    NM condition, $55 in EX, and $30 in VG.  Without seeing your
    card it's hard to tell, but if the front and edges are EX-NM,
    and the back is VG or worse, some collectors would value it
    at EX, while others might say VG-EX.  A dealer would pay
    about 1/2 - 3/4 of list price to buy it.

    Thanks steve... It's not damaged all that much in the back. the
    front is in ex condition. As I said I glued it to a scrap book,
    took it out carefully and got some paper on the back.
    
    Not that I want to sell it either... It's the only one I have :^{)

    If you ever want to trade all those gems, just let me know - I
    have here, in Brooklyn one very large, only slightly rusted bridge
    that could be traded straight up for your Mantles.  It's a good
    deal - really (like you say, it can't hurt to try).

    Has anyone seen or bought the Mickey Mantle Card Collecting Kit yet?? 
    My kit just arrived, I payed $12.95 PPD, and its pretty good.  The kit
    has a card that can be played on a phonogragh, (record player), and it
    has about 20 odd cards of the Mick from his early days to his
    retirement years, and the cards are of good quality stock, and the pics
    are very sharp.  I think its a great way to get a hold of some cards
    for a reasonable price of a true HOF.  There is also a little booklet
    inclosed and a small plastic holder binder, which comes with it to put
    the cards into.  It would make a nice gift for a youngster who can't
    afford any Mantle cards.

    	I've seen it for sale at Toys R Us for $9.95.  They also have
    a Babe Ruth kit, Don Mattingly, and Jose Canseco (I think ?).

    But why would kids be interested in Mickey Mantle cards?  He hasn't
    played in 20 years.  I was never interested in Ty Cobb cards (not that
    I ever saw one when I was a kid) when I was able to get Mantle cards. 
    I imagine kids today are more interested in Will Clark or Don Mattingly
    cards.  I would think this is more for adults who can't afford his
    cards.

    I collect cards because of the player and his accomplishments over his
    career as a BB player.  Its also nice to see how a player looked in his
    younger days as a player, since many of us growing up never saw some of
    these greats in person, or even on T.V., since they played in the early 
    years of the 40's and 50's.  Its also kind of nice to look over a great
    players stats, to look over which years he produced the most homeruns
    or best batting average.  Mantles' stats are truly awesome, considering
    the injuries the man had throughout his career.  I suppose kids today
    ask what has he done for me lately??  But Mantle and his
    accomplishments are a part of Baseball History that can never be taken
    away, and I would think that if a kid is a true BB card collector, he
    would want to know which players were the dominate players during their
    time, and Mantle was surely the dominate player in the early 50's
    to early 60's.  I'm not saying he was the only one, but he definitly
    was a good one.  I bet if you asked a kid if he wanted a Mickey Mantle
    card or a Will Clark, I wonder which one he would take??

      Another thing to think about. Sometimes we get to hung up on the
    kid thing. My son amazes me at times with his knowledge of the game.
    He loves everything about it and has the time to devote to learning
    everything he can about the game, including it's history. He even
    plays whenever he gets the chance and when we go to Fenway, he helps
    out my failing memory many times over. I never lived baseball during
    Babe's time either but, that doesn't mean that I wouldn't love to own
    every  one of his cards. Same goes for my son... because those men
    were some of baseball's best. This is not just collecting.... It is
    also the love of the sport.

    My two boys, 7 and 9 would kill for a Mantle, Aaron, Mays, Berra, etc.

    Lets take a poll.  What is everyones favorite Mickey Mantle card??  Of
    all the cards out, from the 51B to the new fangle issues, which Mickey
    card gives you the most pleasure to look at??  Since I don't have the
    52T card yet, I guess, I would have to choose the 53T, even though my
    heart is with the 51B, since its his real rookie card, and I have had
    it since I was about 7.

    I was at the Westboro show yesterday, and one of the dealers was the 
    co-promoter of the MM show coming to Sturbridge in July.  He told me
    that MM gets $25 of the $35 that they charge for an autograph.  If MM
    does 1600 autograghs on the two day stint, he will get a cool $40,000
    for two days work, if you call it that.  He only got $100,000 for a
    whole season when he played.  Unbelievable!  Also saw him on cable 
    last week, I believe he was getting $79 per baseball, thats
    autographed of course.  Everyone is really capitalizing on this new 
    crazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.  "Autographs"

    remember that the next time someone recalls the old days and how the
    game has has changed and today's players are greedy etc, etc. Not a
    slam against the Mick , but players of yesteryear just didn't have the
    opportunity to be as greedy as today's ballplayers.

    Using Mantle as an example, if he signs autographs every weekend
    maybe 1500 a weekend, just how much is his signature really worth
    on a flooded market?

    Your probably right, if I get a grunt or groan out of the Mick, I
    should be happy.  I just got off the phone with the promoter of the 
    Show this weekend at Sturbridge, and he said MM is coming in on Friday,
    settling in, signing all the mail order stuff that nite, and then doing
    the show the next two days.  Wonder if Mickey eats at the inn, or gets
    room service, so he doesn't burn up his pen signing free autosgraphs at
    dinner.  I bet he's so sick of signing stuff, he eats dinner in his 
    room so he doesn't get hassled.

    I finally met Mickey Mantle, and I was not disappointed!!  The show at
    Sturbridge was just Super.  I'm speaking as a MM fan and collector,
    this show had it all, I was in heaven.  Everyone put out there MM stuff
    for sale, it was high priced, but so what, it was fun to look at.  The
    most supprising thing for sale was a MM Bat from 1972-1974, autographed
    by Mickey and it was priced at $1800!  And the guy said that in NY,
    there now being sold for $2000 and up.  No kidding, $1,800 for a bat,
    and it was the only one I saw autographed by Mickey in the whole show,
    and for that matter, it has been the only one I have seen since the 
    Shriners Show last Fall that I have seen for sale.  His bats are
    scarce.  Getting back to Mickey, he shook my hand and my sons hand,
    smiled, and handed me the ball.  I snapped about 11 pictures of him,
    and one seemed to have blinded him, he looked up and saw me klicking
    away, so I took off before he started to get mad.  But all in all,
    I had one heck of a day.  I noticed alot more autograph memorablia out
    there for the show than ever before.  Cards were almost becoming second
    nature.  I saw a lot of collectors buying up posters, and prints, auto
    balls and uniforms, ( which seems to be the next big ticket item to
    come along for the dealers) and sports magazines.
    I had a good time, and I'm glad I finally got the chance to meet my
    boyhood hero in person.  It was a real thrill, it was worth the $50
    to get the ball signed, and now I know why its so popular. 

     
      The nicest thing I saw was a near mint 52 topps MM going for $2500.
    What a nice card! Wish I had that kind of money...! The guy has a store
    at the Shrewsbury ctr. if u r interested. It is in the sporting goods
    store at the traffic light at the center. He also has a Ryan rookie
    for $900. 

    There is a short interview with Mickey Mantle in the lastest issue of
    "SPORT", magazine.  It is also the Swim Suit issue, so its an added 
    bonus to go out and by it.  Mantle is still pissed off that Rojer Maris
    has an * next to the 61 homerun record set in 1961.  He also compares
    Jose Canstinko to himself as to homerun power, fan appreciation, etc.
    Also discusses salaries to some extent.  The most he ever made was
    $100,000.  He now gets $20,000 for a 3 hour autograph session.  I just
    wonder what he would be worth NOW, if he was in his prime.  Any
    thoughts to Mantles' Salary in the 90's??

	I heard a story about what Mantle once said to a reporter whoa asked him
how he would have faired during the Steinbrenner days, had he been playing then.
The reporter asked him what he would say to George and Mantle responded, "Howdy
Partner"!!!  :-)

    Has anyone seen or have been lucky enough to get one of the Mickey
    Mantle cards in the Series II packs of 1991 SCORE.  There are also 
    giving away 2493 autographed cards with the Mick on them.  Does
    Beckett Mag give the value of these cards or are these just promos, and
    not regular issue?

    I got one in a box that i open over the weekend , card 5 of 7 (speed
    and power. They look like this years cards ( the white ones )

    	I opened 2 boxes, and found Mickey Mantle card 1 of 1 (The Rookie),
    	it shows a full length picture of Mickey dressed with regular
    	clothes, he is also wearing a jacket and a hat with a band around
    	the hat.  Next to him there is another person that looks like a
    	very young Billy Martin, but I am not sure about this.
    
    	The back of the card shows a full face small picture of Mickey wearing
    	the Yankees cap.  Has anybody seen what the possible value of these
    	cards is ?.  I have looked in Beckett and Baseball Card Trader 
    	magazines, but haven't found any listing of these cards.
    
    	At a card show this past weekend, I saw a dealer selling the complete
    	numbered set of all 7 Mickey Mantle cards wrapped and sealed in what
    	appeared to be the official Score wrapping.  The asking price was...
    	(you better sit down before I tell you) ...   $1300.00 !!!
    
    	The dealer said that these complete sets were only available to dealers
	and very limited numbers of these sets were produced. 
    	Has anybody else heard anything about this ...?

    	Before I confuse someone, or before someone replies to point out
    	the obvious mistake I made on 40.41, I will correct my own mistake
    	and mention that where I said 1 of 1, it should be obvious that
    	there is no such thing, there are 7 Mantle cards, and I should
    	have written 1 of 7 , which is the correct number.
                                    

    I saw one of these cards (I think) at a show last Sunday. The dealer
    wanted something like $250.00 for it. Yeah, right. While you're at it,
    gimmee one of them there "Elite" sets, too. 
    
    And don't forget to kiss me behind the ear while you're at it.
    
    Who would actually pay this kind of money for a new card, "rare" or
    not? I can understand *selling* it for that kind of dough, but buying?

    I've heard of the Dealer Sets, and have seen them.  Fred, at the
    Concord Card Shop has the complete dealer set, and he showed me the
    letter that came with them, which stated, a limited number set, 5000
    produced, and each is numbered set # of 5000.  The picture on the back
    of the card is smaller than the regular card in the packs, and the
    numbering system is underneath the picture.  Fred was offered $350
    the first day he received them, and I can imagine some dealers have
    raised the price since then.  They are verrry nice cards, and Score has
    hit it big on this years cards, I personally think they are the best
    looking cards for 1991!!
    

    In this weeks USA BAseball Weekly, there is a complete page of Mickey
    Mantle signing SCORE 1991 Series II cards.  The AD says, "SCORE, the
    MICKEY MANTLE OF BASEBALL CARDS".  I have to agree, the the 1991 SCORE
    cards are the best!!  No one even comes close to them this year.  Fleer
    cards looks like they have been left in the Sun to long, DR are the
    same cards as 1990, but Blue colored, and UD is UD, they havent changed
    much, and of course Topps, the card board stock is the same material
    cereal boxes are made of, just plain CHEAP!   Mantle has a new book
    out, about the 1956 season, and he has been doing promotionals on TV
    shows accross the country.  This guy is "RED HOT" right now!!  If
    anyone here of him doing book signings, let me know, usually they
    autograph the book for Zippo if you buy his book.  Imagine buying the
    $18.95 book, and getting a $35 autograph too!  What a deal!!

    At the Sturbrige Show on 5/19, A SCORE Autographed Mickey Mantle card 
    which came out of the Series II packs was selling for $2000.00.  The 
    guy first told me $200, then his partner said hold on a minute, check 
    the zeros again JOe, Oh Ya, Missed a Zero there, sorrry, its $2000.00
    Thought I was going to be caught up into one of those deals like the 
    kid from the Mid-west, getting the Nolan Ryan card for $12.00 bucks.

    A dealer at a recent show was telling me about a Mantle Card that was 
    put out some time ago by one of the Gasoline companies, maybe Ammoco,
    he wasn't sure.  Has anyone seen or heard of this card.  Supposedly,
    there are two players attached, and are perferated between them.  He
    picked up a couple of them, but really doesnt know the price.  Ive
    looked in the big books and have not seen this one in there.  Anyone
    have a clue to what he is talking about?

    Has anyone checked out the latest Beckett Mag on the price of the 1952
    Topps Mickey Mantle card.  The price is now up to $7,500 and $12,500,
    which maybe starting to reflect the price of the Southbys Auction where
    the price payed for the card was $49,500.  WOW!!

    
    That card was (supposedly) the finest known example of the 52T
    card to exist.  For the same reason that the Honus Wagner card
    more than doubled it's previous selling price.
    
    If you have the 'finest known', and you have people with too
    much money, you're going to get record setting prices.

    I thought I had the finest copy of the 52T around?  All I know is, its 
    going through the roof!  And I have not seen one for sale at any shows
    since the Willmington Show back two years ago.  Even Rotmans sold the
    only one they had.  Has anyone else seen any around for sale at shows
    or shops?? Either dealers dont have them, or they dont bother
    displaying them at shows. 
    
    On another note, did anyone catch the Boston Herald edition **
    yesterday, it had an Article on "Mick's Stuff goes quick".  I guess
    Jonathan Leland Evans discussed an upcoming auction with the Mick for 
    next Wednesday.  They are auctioning off a 1967 Mantle Uniform,
    estimated to sell for $50,000, and a cap to go with it for $4,000 to
    $5,000.  Mantle seemed shocked it was worth as much as that.  He also
    talks about how he has kept nothing, except a few items from his heros,
    Stan the Man, Joe D. and Ted W.  It also says how Mantle Memorabilia is
    an industry in itself.  Mantle was so shocked at the price, he says to 
    Jon, hey, I have a couple of pairs of old shorts here, how about these?

    Mantle says that if he knew what that shirt was worth he'd be sleeping

	Magnum Comics has begun a series of books featuring Hall of Famer
	Mickey Mantle. Seven 32-page, full-color comic books ($1.75 each)
	will tell Mickey Mantle's like story. The first goes to 1951, with
	emphasis on his years growing up in Oklahoma. Other books are expected
	to follow, in which notable events Mantle's life will be told, such
	as the first time he met fellow New York Yankees legend Joe DiMaggio.

	About 200,000 copies will be printed...

    Now lets not get nasty and tell stories about Mantle and all the crazy
    things he did while he was playing.  They were a bunch of "good'o boys"
    from Okie and NY, and lets face it, most of us wouldn't have minded
    being the ash tray on the table just to listen to some of there stories
    and the good times Billy, Whitey, and Mickey enjoyed.  Sure, they lived         
    it up good, but I would have rathered done those things than what some
    of these modern ballplayers do on there time off, like sign autographs
    for big bucks, when they all ready are pulling down $4M a year, or
    making #900 telephone numbers, so they can brag about how fast they
    drive a sports car, or how many red lights he ran last nite.  Give me
    a break.  I thought "Ball Four" was pretty humerous.  It kind of opened
    the door into the private side of baseball players.  Boys will be boys.
    
    Where do they sell these here Comic books?

    	The superstars of their day were paid well enough for the era
    in which they lived.  Mantle surely didn't live in "da Bronx" when
    he played in NY.  I'm sure he lived in one of the wealthier suburbs,
    along with the superstar treatment that accomapnied him wherever he
    went.
    
    	Granted, by today's standards, even with inflation, they were
    underpaid, and they over-produced, but they were by no means hitting
    the bread line every week.
    
    	A lot of the lesser players (unlike today) had second jobs
    during the winter, or work towards a degree to ensure they'd have a
    livelihood after baseball.
    
    	But don't kid yourself.  If the opportunity presented itself, and
    the public accepted it the way they do now, lots of players would've
    signed autographs for $ back then.
    
    	And to be completely honest, current players signing at card shows
    has descreased in recent years.  Sure, they still do it on occasion,
    but not to the degree they used to.  Mostly you see ex-players, and
    very young players (ie. cheap for the promoter) doing them.  They all
    do them, but not to the degree you used to see it.

    Did you happen to see the interview on channel 7, CBS with Mantle and
    Yogi.  Mantle's biggest gripe was that the fines have not changed much
    from when he played.  He says to fine a guy making $3m for about $500
    is a joke.  They fined us guys $500 to $1500 for staying out late.  I
    quote, " Heck, if I was making $3M and they fined me $500 for staying
    out to late, I might just say take another $1500 because there is a 
    good chance I'll be out late a few nites later this week."  These guys
    were real funny to listen to.  The broadcast was from Mantle's 
    Resturante in NY.  Have you been there yet?

    I wasn't being derogatory about Bouton stories at all...I figured that
    they would make better comic books than demonstrating the Mick's
    batting grip and all of that kind of candy stuff.
    
    You know, adult-type comic books...well, maybe not *that* kind of adult
    comic books...just panels like "Great Fight Moments at the Copa," etc.

    The latest Beckertt Magazine is now listing a Mint 1952 Mantle for
    $15,000 AND $24,000 .  Wow!  My question is, what would a EX 52 Mantle

    Now come on.  What does a EX 52 Topps Mantle really worth.  Would you
    say that 30% of the top value is an accurate measurement?  I'm trying 
    to come up with an apprasial of what I have for security purposes, just
    in case the Banks' Saftey Deposit Box system is, Robbed?  I'm trying to
    make an accounting of all this memorabilia junk.

    Has anyone seen the Issue #2 of the Magnum Comics series of the "Mickey
    Mantle Story".  I see the Issue #1 is around at $5/each, and the
    dealers are hyping this up big time.  It was well done, but $5 per
    copy, now come on guys, that's a bit much, a month old and it goes up
    500% over cost??

    JUST saw an ad for the Gloria Rothstein show in August, 14th thru 16th.
    Mantle will be autographing with Mays and Snider.  Mantle's autograph
    is now going for $50 BUCKS!! Plus admission is $6.00, plus the cost of
    a baseball, $7.00.  Thats why HSC is charging $99 for a autographed BB.
    
    Did anyone go to the National this 1992 season??  Would like to know
    how it was.

    
    Most shows still have Mantle @ $45 Rick -- Gloria Rothstein's
    prices are not for the most cost-conscious amoung us...
    
    If you're going to buy Mantle pieces off the TV Rick, buy them
    from QVC -- they only charge $85 ... ;^)

    Mickey Munster??  Is this a joke?  If he signed it that way, I'll take
    it.  Mantle has lowered himself to having his balls sold in JC Penny 
    stores.  This is very degrading.  I'm glad he doesn't sign Bats
    anymore.  I would hate to see it come down to that, his signed stuff
    hanging from some TJ Max store in the 40% to 70% off rack.

    The Upperdeck Collectibles Magazine is out!!  Thats right, all you guys
    that are lined up to pick up a Mantle Bat or Jacket, 1951 version there
    here and are available.  Now for the price.  The Mantle Bat, which is 
    a repro model Louisville Slugger, like the store Models 1960's version
    with the Mickey Mantle Signature is going of, sit down everyone,
    $1,750.00.  The authentic 1951 Yankee Jacket, unsigned, like Mantles 
    version of the 1951's is going for $299.00.
    
    Reggie Jackson bats, are going for $699.95 and uniforms are going for 
    $399.00.  There is a slew of other Upperdeck, high-priced items 
    going for sale also.  All Primo Items, selling for BIG-BUCKS.  I have
    to say, the stuff is nice, but rather pricey.
    
    Anyway, the Toll free number to get this great Magazine, if you want 
    one is 1-800-456-2007.  The Magazine has a picture of Mantle swinging,
    I think its a reverse angle of his 535th homer off Denny McClain, which
    no doubt will be a collectors item in 4weeks, selling for $5 bucks at 
    some Po-dunk card show.  Have fun Christmas Shopping.

    Big Mantle Show coming on January 8,9,10 , at the Holiday Inn, 500
    Lincoln St. Worcester Ma.  Also appearing, Hank Baur, (My coach, and a 
    real nice guy), Moose Skowron, another really nice guy, and Jimmy Orr,
    (?Any relation to Bobby Orr).Never heard of him.  Anyway, Mantle is
    always his charming self and should be fun to see again. Hope he is
    well oiled before he signs, otherwise he could get kind of crabby. 
    The show should be like a MM museum, with all the dealers loading up on
    Mantle Memorablia.  I just can't wait to go.  You'll see me there.

How much?

    I saw a new Mickey Mantle set, called "Mickey Mantle 30 card set", by
    PinnAcle.  The cards are real nice!!!!  And there are some pictures I
    have seen in old Sport and SI magazines, but put into a card form. 
    Also, they have done some real nice photography with triple exposures,
    and they stopped a baseball off his bat, and have some great shots of
    him sliding into a base with the dirt flying around, Real nice shots
    for a card set.  I'm impressed, and bought a set.  Has anyone seen 
    these around card shows, and what is the going price.  I might invest
    in a case.

    SCD has dealers selling them from 15-20$. It is a nice set.

    They listed the set for $19.95, I got it for $18, and they were selling
    individual cards for $1.00 to $2.00 per card.  It would seem that these
    are cards would some day be selling for $2 to $5 per card, once the 
    sets disappear.  I thought the set is just beautiful, great pics,  and
    some nice pictures in his early years.
    
    	AT $18, I thought that was a bargin, .60 per card.

    Anyone go to the MM show on Jan. 8,9,10 up to Worcester.  What did you
    think of the show, and did you get to meet any of the other signers??

    I went on Sunday...  Needed to get Mantle for my 500 HR ball...
    Didn't have advance 'graph tickets so I hoped for the best.
    Got there at 9:45; heard that no 'graph tickets were available
    so I was just about to leave.  Ran into a guy that works with my
    father.  He said he had an extra ticket so he sold it to me...
    Ticket # 379.
    
    Checked out the show for a while.  Mantle finally arrived at 11:15.
    I had a super ticket (with Moose Skowron, Johnny Orr and one other
    guy)...  They finally called 300-350 so I took a chance to go 
    into the room...  It wasn't until then that the guy said, "Oh
    you have #201 for this ticket, you can go in now"...  I guess if
    you had matched up any one of the tickets with the numbers they
    called, then you could go down...  I wish they said that earlier,
    the guy I bought the ticket off of had numbers 7 and 8; and he
    didn't use them until after I left!!...  :-(
    
    Got into the main room at 1:15, never got him to sign my ball til
    2:15!!  Some of these dealers have the nerve to bring down 25, 50
    or 100 items at once to get signed while people with one or two
    items wait in line...  I was with my 2 year old son, so you can 
    imagine how it was....
    
    I was expecting the worse when I finally got there...  Surprisingly,
    he was in a good mood even after all the 'graphs he signed...
    BTW, 'graphs cost $60 (supposed to be his last show before he starts
    his 2-year exclusive contract with Upper Deck).

    Just in case anyone is planning on going to the Mickey Mantle Fantasy 
    Camp this year, (November), Whitey Ford and Mickey have split up.  WF
    camp is being held the last week of October, and first week of
    November, and Mantle's Camp is being held the following week.  I bet
    this has something to do with his contractual obligation with UD. 
    Anyway, Mick's buddies are doing his camp, and Whitey has brought in
    some of his guys to do his camp.  I was real surprised to see this
    happen, because Mickey and Whitey are very close, and they seemed to
    get along real well.  
    
    I've noticed that alot of Mantle's items have seemed to disappear from
    the sales logs.  Wonder if the dealers are sandbagging his stuff until
    after his big contract with UD, because he is off the card show tour
    for two years, and nothing can get signed.

    Rick, I've seen some ads for shows that the Mick will be appearing at
    in SCD.
    
    Last night on Seinfeld, they reran the  episode  where Kramer went to
    Yankee Fantasy Camp, gave Joe Pepitone some "chin music" for crowding
    the plate, hit him on the next pitch  and  then clocked the Mick when
    the benches emptied. Pretty funny ...

    I guess I missed that episode again.  Mickey and Whitey must have
    decided it was time to call it quits, unless one of them had a
    committment, so they decided to extend the camp for another week.  Last 
    year they did have alot of guys the first week, 86 and I bet there were
    some compliants for lack of playing time amoung some of the campers.
    I thought Mickey was under an exclusive contract with UD, and was
    forbidden to do any shows except UD sponsored shows.  That must be what 
    those shows are, wouldn't you say?

    There are two new Mickey Mantle Upper Deck Cards out.  One, is the
    "Then and Now" series, of Mantle on a Hologram Card.  The other is on
    one of the triple-header cards, with Reggie Jackson.  Real nice card,
    Upper Deck really used there imagination bringing this type of card
    back to use.  Both pretty nice cards, going for $20 and $10
    respectively.  

    Rick, the triple header card was part of a four card set and I believe
    Mantle was in two of them.

    John, I do believe your correct.  Mantle is on two of them, one is with
    W. Mays, or Ted W., which goes for $5. more.  They are very nice cards,
    and are realitively scarce, not real common amoung the collectors.  Do
    you know what the Tuff Stuff price is on the Triple Header card?

    Well, I guess this week's Sports Illustrated pretty much explains
    Mantle's fine manors over the last 30 years (wine isn't alcohol, is
    it?)
    
    I hope he can stay clean. I think its a little soon to be writing
    an "I've beat my problem" article given the amount of relapses that
    occur, but I hope he beats it.

    I just got my new Upper Deck Catalog in the mail, and they are
    promoting, get this, a Mastercharge Mickey Mantle swinging the bat 
    credit card for free, first year only.  So I did send away for it, and
    the card is great.  This will definitely be a collectors item in the
    future.  Also, UD will be sending out promo materials and special
    offers for members.  If you have credit, go for it.

    So long Mick.  You'll be missed by fans, noters, players and the
    kids in all of us.

    Rick Gasparoni and Tony Daniele must be in mourning. Those guys were
    big Mantle fans  and  had pretty nice Mantle collections - cards and
    other stuff.  I was impressed.  I wasn't a Mickey Mantle fan, but he
    was a great player, one of the best.

    Latest SCD has a story that Topps will reprint all of it's Topps
    Mickey Mantle cards for inserts in it's 1996 wax product.  Also,
    they will no longer create any card #7 in their sets. This might
    be okay  for  one year, but I don't see why they would do it all
    the time.
