657.1 | Games are NOT compatible. | MPO::WHITTALL | All I can do is 8-) 8-) 8-).... | Mon Aug 12 1991 11:20 | 14 |
| Hi Sandy..
From what I've read here, and in the papers, the new boxes
will be out in time for the Christmas season..
However, and this is a BIG consideration, your current set
of cartridges WILL NOT be compatible with the new box.
That means selling ALL your current cartidges, and buying
ALL new games...
Major bummer for me... I KNOW my wife won't go for it.. :-(

Excuse me... Did you even read the baseline note.. If you had, you would
have read that their unit is broken.. Therefore, the cartridges they have
are useless, unless they either a) buy the current unit on the market, or
b) wait and buy the new unit.
I was simply telling her that if she waited for the new unit, she'd be
better off selling the old cartidges that won't be any good in the new
system. (Get a little cash back to purchase the cartridges for the new
machine).
Thank you

657.5 | 8-bit vs.16? It's a lock,NES. | SUBWAY::HAMMEL | | Fri Aug 16 1991 14:49 | 12 |
| Sandy,
Another consideration may be the cost of the cartridges for each
system. Last month the original $50 cost of "Crystalis" was dropped to
$30 and this past week it went on sale for $14.99. It seems all games
are going on "clearance sale" for the 8-bit NES except the top sellers.
They will probably all be very cheap when the Super NES is released.
I wonder what the cost of the 8-bit game box will be then?
It also seems that the cost of 16-bit games will be in the $40-$70
range and the Super NES around $200. This "toy" has graduated.

Has anyone seen the new console design for the 8-bit system?
Pretty wild ... more aerodynamic than the original. Comes
with 1 controller, which doesn't matter since I have a pair
of controllers and an Advantage unit already.
Citishopper [Citibank's version of QVC, basically] has it on
sale for $44, and I'll probably buy one since the used deck
I bought for $30 is having problema and would cost almost
that much to fix anyways.

Shawn,
I just bought one, used, a short while back. (My first Nintendo -
figured it had become a classic, and would fit in well with my
ColecoVision... B^)
Toys 'R' Us sells them for $45; most everywhere else they're a bit
more (up to $60). We've had no problems with the unit; reportedly
(and in our experience) they cut down on contact problems.
They also supposedly don't work with Game Genies; however, for
the titles I got the unit for (M.U.L.E., Arkanoid, Othello, etc.)
I didn't care.

So I guess it's not as good a deal as I thought, eh?
And why did I put that in this note? I could have sworn I
started a new one for 8-bit consoles.

Well, I had a $25 mall gift certificate, so I went and bought
a new 8-bit deck. Took me 3 stores, but I finally found one
Kay-Bee Toy and Hobby ... $50, so it cost me $25 out-of-pocket.
In case anyone cares, this new design also saw the need to
eliminate the audio/video out jacks that were on the original
design.
And this one is top-loading, so it takes up a little more
room than the original deck. But it is narrower.
