I've seen them at Music Forum in Gardner. I didn't take too close of a
look, but it looked like a cartridge, and cost about $12.00.

| I used a foam tipped "Q" tip and a can of vcr head cleaning solution.
I never had problems with my deck and only used as preventative
maintenance, but I'm sure it would cure the same problems that
Nintendo's $30 rip off would and for a damn sight less money.
This method cleans both the deck and cartridge. Does Nintendo's
cure do both?

| NES Cleaner Kit
Is available in the Fitchbur, Leominster area. I saw it at
Prime Value for $10.99, Kay-Bee Toys and Woolworth have it
also at a much higher price.
It is like a cartridge unit that you use water and/or alcohol
and it cleans both the games and the control deck.
I purchased one and it seems to work quite well.

| A NINTENDO CARTRIGE IS NOT A TAPE, IT'S A SET OF R.O.M.(Read Only
Memory). TO CLEAN A CARTIAGE THE OLNY THING TO DO IS CLEAN THE GOLD
CONECTORS(FINGERS) THAT MAKE CONTACT WITH THE N.E.S SYSTEM ITSELF.
I WOULD SAY THE BEST THING TO DO IS JUST THAT.

Note 588.0 Cleaning Advice Needed 2 replies

I know that there is an NES cleaning cartridge for the Nintendo unit
(which I will probably pick up this week). I believe this only cleans
the unit. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to safely clean the
points in the game cartridge itself? Using a Q-tip swab (my first
thought on this issue) seems to run the risk of the swab fibers getting
stuck in the points. So, any proven effective methods would be
appreciated.
Thanks!

I found a cleaning kit that included a piece that cleans the
cartridges (actually it was $3 cheaper that the kit that only cleans
the NES unit)
The piece that cleans the cartridge is made of a hard sponge-like
substance that is attached to a plastic holder.

Sounds better than just the deck cleaner. Do you remember the name
and/or brand of the dual purpose cleaning kit? What type of store
did you find it at?

371.8 | NES Cleaning Kit | BCSE::WEIER | Patty, DTN 381-0877 | Fri Jan 18 1991 12:58 | 10 |
| We got a Nintendo Cleaning Kit at Lechmere that cleans both the Deck
and the cartridges. It's kind of a pain though cuz they say not to use
it for 12 hours AFTER you clean it.
The part that cleans the deck is shaped the same as a game. To clean
the games, you need to take the cleaner apart (not sure of details, my
husband does it). If you can handle the 12 hour thing, it's well worth
it.
I think it was about $20.00

| I picked up something over the weekend. I believe it was called Doctor
Fix It or something like that. I thought that it cleaned the deck and
cartridges, but I'm not sure (I haven't gotten around to looking at it
or using it yet). It cost me $7.99 at Toys 'R' Us. If it doesn't do
the job, I'll look for the Nintendo kit next time around. Yes, tough
as it may be, I think that I could last 12 hours without play. At this
time, I'm only moderately addicted to the games (but growing more so
every day).

371.10 | Discwasher makes a cleaner | CNTROL::MACNEAL | Papa Mac | Mon Jan 28 1991 13:09 | 9 |
| Lechemere's had a cleaning kit made by Discwasher for around $6. It
includes a long-handled brush and a cleaning solution. Squirt solution
on the brush and then wipe the contacts both in the NES and on the
cartridge.
I think I may having a problem with dog hair and/or dust. Taking the
game cartridge out, blowing into the NES unit, and reinserting the game
takes away the problem I've been having. The unit has sat on the floor
next to the TV for most of it's 3 year life, so I can't complain.
