REAFFIRMATION
In 1990, we will begin a year of reaffirming and refocusing on the
principles of Valuing Differences and Affirmative Action at Digital. We
are doing this because diversity is more important to us as a company
than ever before. Given the increased global nature of our business,
the changes we are going through as a company, and the diverse makeup
of our present and future workforce, it is important to take time to
stop and reflect: What have we done in this area that we are most proud
of? And where do we choose to go from here?
We plan to mark the beginning of our reaffirmation on January 15, Dr.
Martin Luther King's birthday, because we believe that Dr. King stood
for those same values that are embodied in the principles of
Affirmative Action and Valuing Differences at Digital.
It is a tradition in our company that in many sites we come together on
Dr. King's birthday to honor the values he espoused. Should your
organization plan such an event, we ask that you weave this theme of
reaffirmation into your program. There are at least three levels at
which you might do this:
o As an individual: Examining what this work means to you, and
reaffirming your personal commitment to Affirmative Action and Valuing
Differences at Digital.
o Interpersonally: Among the group that gathers to honor Dr. King,
consider reaffirming those values among yourselves and to one another.
o Bringing it back: Bringing our commitment to this work back to each
of our work environments.
Please join me in making 1990 a year of reaffirmation for Digital.
Best wishes for a happy New Year.

I have the Martin Luther King Jr. writings. If people are interested
in having a copy, just send me mail.
Since this is MENNOTES, it might be a good idea to focus on Vd work
done on men's issues and where we might want that work to go in the
future.
