5887.0. "128MB to 512MB upgrade. Need to do anything ?" by GVPROD::MSTEINER () Mon Apr 07 1997 07:51

I recently upgraded an AlphaServer 2100 running NT 3.51 server sp5 from 128MB
to 512MB. I'm wondering if there is any needs to do something (runs a program ?,
change something in the registry ?) so that it knows that it can use more
memory for the cache ? (or is this all automatic).

I'm asking this because it does not seem to use more than 100MB in its cache.

Michel.

    Nope. Just shutdown, install the memory and boot NT.

5887.2Virtual Memory in Control PanelKANATA::TOMKINSMon Apr 07 1997 10:3212
    If you have been to the System Control Panel previously and had set a
    specific Page File size, then you should be back there and make
    adjustments. in fact, I believe that one must do this anyhow, but on
    this point I am not sure, just speculating.

    I typically set Page File size to be the same Intial Size and
    Maximum Size on a freshly formatted disk. This gives me a
    non-fragmented Page File that neither shrinks nor grows, thus avoiding
    fragmentation of this very vital file in the operation of Virtual
    Memory.
