5864.0. "Problem seeing HSZ50 drives NT4.0" by ZPOVC::JUSTIN () Wed Apr 02 1997 00:47

Hello,

	I am having problem trying to get Wnt 4.0 SP2 on a A4000 5/400
to see the HSZ50 disks. The host mode on the HSZ50 (HSOF 5.0Z-1) is set
to D > Windows-NT , the HSZDISK.SYS (copied from network) is installed
and can be found in the registry. Is there any other steps that I have
missed out? Drives can be seen during the initialization phase.

ALPHA Bios is 5.28

regards

Justin

    Can you see the disks from the AlphaBios?

    Is the HSZ50 connected with a KZPSA?

    Hello,

    	Yes I can see the devices at the Bios initialization time with the
    other local disks. Yes we are using the KZPSA to connect to the HSZ50.

5864.8Where - drivers for kzpsa?ZPOVC::JUSTINMon Apr 07 1997 04:129
    Hi,

    	I was not aware that drivers for KZPSA must be installed
    separately. Now that you mentioned it, I am using WNT V4.0 CD from
    microsoft, not Digital. Does that make a difference? (Digital delievered
    V3.51). Where can we get drivers for KZPSA- WNT4.0/Alpha. Is it
    included in the HSZ50 platform kit. Ours may take awhile yet to arrive.

    If you have the 3.8 or 3.9 firmware cd, looks under the UTILS directory.

    cnfgdiag.exe and fwupdate.exe should be what you need. UTILS.TXT
    describes how to load the drivers.

    If you don't have the cd, try

    http://ftp.digital.com/pub/Digital/Alpha/firmware/

    to download the cd files.
5864.10fwupdate & cnfgdiag seems unrelatedZPOVC::JUSTINWed Apr 09 1997 02:4113

    I have the 3.8 firmware CD. I have run cnfgdiag and fwupdate from the
    console. They seem to address hardware setting/configuration of the
    KZPSA, but no WNT drivers. Am I missing something here? We are already
    at A10 firmware.

    I also noted that during the WNT installation WNT has detected a
    controller but has no drivers for it. I prompts for OEM disk
    with drivers. I assumed this referred to the HSZDISK.sys. Following
    the README on the HSZDISK.SYS, I installed it after the WNT
    installation is complete.

   You need the deckzpsx.sys driver.

   Is this or is this not installed ? If it is installed, bring up
   control panel/devices. The deckzpsx driver should have the
   startup option as "boot".

   hszdisk.sys is a class driver. If it does not detect any LUNs
   on the hsz, it would not start up and will post an event in the
   event log. If it does detect LUNs on the hsz, it will start up
   and post an event that it started. It would also indicate the number
   of LUNs it detected. Look at the last longword in the additional
   data for this value.

 btw, I believe the deckzpsa driver is on the alpha firmware CD.

 it's also available at ..
 SUBSYS::PROJ1:[HBA.PZA.PUBLIC.NT.ALPHA]DECKZPSX.SYS
 ... the current version is v1.3. The next version (V1.4) will
 be released in a month or so.
5864.13deckzpsx.sys - missing linkZPOVC::JUSTINWed Apr 09 1997 20:1611

    Yes that was the missing piece. deckzpsx.sys was not loaded. It is not
    available on the firmware CD well atleast the V3.8 CD. I copied from
    your location and installed it (though the README is rather outdated
    V3.5) It works now.

    Thanks to all who helped. Another customer made happy.

	Of course the most logical place to find a pointer would be at

    It would be wonderful to have the necessary KZPSA drivers available

    We get several calls a week related to the drivers.

     Talk to Bill Kerr at Subsys::kerr.

     There are non-standard places to get this driver but I'd rather
     have Bill Lin coordinate this with Bill Kerr to get this driver
     from the "logical" place.

	I'll need to confirm this , but the DECKZPSZ.SYS driver
comes in the Windows NT platform kit for the RAID controller.
That means it is not free. That driver cost about $100 a copy.
Because the HSZ50 can be used on many systems it was not bundled
with the controller to save money.
	If you need a copy for internal use it is free but for
customers it is $$$.

    I received a reply from Bill Kerr. He says the HSZ driver's available
    from the web (via www.storage.digital.com/swrks under "technomania").
    He didn't know if the KZPSA driver was available or not but he said his
    group's going to make the drivers available if they aren't available
    yet.

    With the reply in .-1, it looks like a simple matter of collecting all
    the different pointers and putting them in a logical place so everyone
    can find them.

    /Bill
