1035.0. ""Batman Triumphant" or "Batman and Robin" (Batman IV)" by BOOKIE::chayna.zko.dec.com::EPPES (Nina Eppes) Tue Feb 20 1996 19:03

Here's the official "Batman IV" topic (and when I find out or someone
reminds me what the movie's real title is, I'll change the topic title
accordingly).

First few replies were moved from the "Batman Forever (Batman III)" topic.

Didn't know where to put this so........

Latest news from the Entertainment Desk is that Val Kilmer is
re-thinking contractual agreements to appear in the next Batman
flick. Rumor has it that a search for a new Caped Crusader is
    under way.

And just who was approached to play the hero in black...

None other than ER's George Clooney!

I think the new Batman film will be called "Batman Triumphant" and as
far as having Arnie as Mr Freeze, "BOLLOCKS". Arnie is good at action
films ok but I think Patrick Stewart would be far better, after all, he
    is a brilliant actor.

Uma Thurman would do a good job as Poison Ivy but she doesn't have red
hair and who is Alicia Silverstone. Good to have Chris O'Donnel back
as Robin but I cannot picture George Cooley as Batman. I didn't like
them changing the actor once, never mind twice but Val was good at
playing both Bruce Wayne and Batman so I hope he decides to reprise his
    role as The Caped Crusader.

Well, no one could picture Michael Keaton as Batman, but then
there he was and he did quite well.

George Clooney, at 1st, sounds like just as bad a choice, but

George Clooney!! Oh no, IMO I think the producers have made a terrible
mistake. I know looney Clooney is on that popular drama on T.V. now.
But wasn't he Booker on Roseanne a few years back? And wasn't he on
Fact of Life alot of years back also?! Great, what a way to mess up
something that could have been good. (Although I wasn't to crazy about
ther pick for Robin in Batman Forever either.) Oh well I guess we will
    have to wait and see.

I see we are getting a little off track here....

If, you think about it really doesn't matter who plays Batman. It's
the villians that usally shine in these movies. Clooney, although he
wouldn't be my first pick would do just fine. What is really important
it who is going to play the bad guys...Think about the 1st batman
movie....Jack Nicoleson(sp?)stole the show!!! The 2nd one was Michelle
Pheifer grabbed some of the spot light(I thought they did a lousy job
with Danny Devito)...and the 3rd one was Jim Carrey who took his turn
at stealing the spotlight from Batman(Tommy Lee Jones as Twoface was
very annoying). So, if they go and get two or three villains then it
won't matter who the caped crusader is.

Apparently the filmakers have realised that the 'baddies' are the most imprtant
characters in the Batman films. There is a rumour that the real reason for
Val Kilmer not doing Batman 4 was caused by a disagreement between him and the
film company over the casting of Arnie. It seems that Val Kilmer was to star
with Arnie in a film (True Lies I think), and Arnie said no, so Kilmer was
dropped. When Arnie was cast in Batman 4, Kilmer told the film co to ditch Arnie
or else he (Kilmer) would refuse to star. The film co then told Kilmer where
to go.

Allegedly.

Apparently, Arnie is learning to iceskate for his role. That ought to

    associate with big Arn.

This is from the tabloids, so who knows how much truth there is to it,
but ... I've read that that Val Kilmer's agent felt that he deserved
much more money for the next Batman movie ... and they thought it would
be easier/cheaper just to find someone else, who wasn't quite so
expensive. According to the paper, Val Kilmer actually wasn't that
happy about the decision. Also heard that Stallone was up against
Schwatznegger for the Mr. Freeze role, but that Arnie won out.

I think George Cloony would be just fine ... after all, who ever
thought that Michael Keaton would be good in Batman's 1 and II?

I mean sequals are great and all, but it should be reserved for
flicks that'll keep ya interested. And I think the thing that keeps me
intrested in Batman would have to be the excelent casting of
characters. ie: "The Joker" - Jack Nicholson, "The Penguin" - Danny
DeVito (even though the flick itself sucked) or "The Riddler" - Jim

Batman could go on as long as the plot was up to scratch. The first
one was a good idea, the second, blatant capitalisation and the third
was dire hollywood schlock. Why don't the screenwriters follow the
plot of the comic books? These plots are often well thought out and
would translate well to film, often relying more on the characters
intellect than the clever gadgets that seem to get one use and are then
thrown away (has this got got unlimited money or something?). I think

liners in this one, well to be truthful they all have some pretty
    cheesy one liners.

Now don't get me wrong, I'll probably be one of the first in line for
    it.

Also, don't know if it's mentioned here, but it's scheduled for release
    June 20, 1997.

The previews are pretty cool. I think Arnie's costume looks cool too!
Of course the story (IMO) probably won't be much better than that of
the Saturday Morning Cartoon version. But then again, some of those
Cartoons have better plots than many movies. [^;=
