| There's more fuel used in Baseball and Football. The amount of fuel
actually used on the track is totally insignificant compared to fuel used in
attending ANY sporting event. But since when did politicians use logic?
Example: Fuel to drive to and from event 10 gallons
Fuel consumed at event by the race car 3 gallons
There's 250 competitors at a motorsport event but 10,000+ "away supporters"
at football matches. Thats 100,000 gallons compared to 750.

| Not to mention fuel used to heat and cool arenas and domed stadia or
that Indy cars use methonal, an often proposed alternative fuel.
But if people were rational...

| I believe that letters, with statistics/comparisons as in response
#2, to various magazines (Autoweek, Ontrack, etc.) and newspapers
will help in heading off the "unpleasant notoriety" toward auto
racing.
If anyone can provide those types of statistics it would be helpful to
the rest of us to back up any letters we may want to write.
Get the facts out there to dispell the rumors.

| I'd wait to start writing letters until there's an attack. Problem
with trying to forestall any possible attack is that it might just
serve to suggest a target and to widen the audience. I'd certainly be
prepared to respond, but I don't think I would want to see any letters
to try to "head off" (per .3) unpleasant notoriety.

| How about we just limit all driving to people who really *ENJOY*
it?
