Story: 
  WASHINGTON -DJ- The National Association of Securities Dealers Inc. said 
that as a result of an expedited remedial proceeding, it suspended Datek 
Securities Corp. of New York from membership in the NASD for three months. 
  Additionally, NASD said, Datek's head trader, Sheldon Maschler, was 
suspended for three months and required to requalify by examination. 
  NASD said the suspensions were imposed based on findings that Datek, acting 
through Maschler, entered a series of 690 trades into the NASD's Small Order 
Execution System for 21 discretionary accounts over which Maschler exercised 
discretion and control. 
  These orders were found to be based on a single investment decision, and 
when aggregated, exceeded the maximum Small Order Execution System order size 
limits for the securities involved. 
  Datek is permitted to effect liquidating transactions only to close existing 
securities positions for customers and proprietary accounts, NASD said. 
  As reported Aug. 16, 1991, Datek was fined $10,000 and suspended 10 days 
from acting as a small order execution system, and Maschler was fined $50,000 
and suspended 35 days.

	Thanks for all the replies. Now, how do I know if the last transaction was a sale by the stockholder to the company, or a purchase by the new stockholder from the company.

	Get a quote and make an inference. For example, I just checked Microsoft. Bid 78 1/2, Asked 78 3/4, last 78 1/2. Odds are pretty good the last trade was a sale to one of the NASDAQ ("license to steal") market-makers in MSFT. John

	Anyone have a DATEK account? I recently opened an account with them and found that I cannot access their secure servers. The problem seems to be that our firewall prevents a connection. Has anyone successfully gotten around this problem? Since this is kind of a personal web page, I really don't want to ask our system people for much help on this. Ray
