984.0. "Star Wars: Heir to the Empire" by BAUCIS::SAPP (I'm Off to BE the WIZARD) Tue May 21 1991 15:42

Takes place 5 years after RETURN OF THE JEDI. Could this be the third
    trilogy of Star Wars?
This novel just hit the bookstores. Anyone have read it yet.

Yes. It is rather long, introduces many new 'strings-to-tie-up', and has
some of the old standard lines (eg,"I've got a bad feeling about this"
type).

Introduced are some other Empire nasties that were operating in the background
while the middle trilogy was going on. Life on Chewbacca's planet is shown
for a little bit, Lando shows up again, internal fighting amongst the Rebels.
Not a tremendously exciting book, though. It is more a jumping off point
for further books...

I enjoyed it, as a nice invocation of the movies, which I loved. I
wonder if there are movie plans? The book has official John Lukas
affiliation, if that's any indicator. "Jedi" was about ten years ago,
huh? If they use the same actors, they'll be getting slightly long in
    the tooth.

Brian Daley's three Han Solo books were even truer to the spirit of
Star Wars, if not so rigorously referral to the movies, IMO.

Did you try asking one of the workers in the store? That's what they
    are allegedly there for.

Check out the movies notesfile, there has been quite a
bit of discussion on this topic recently. I believe the
current views are that the first 3 movies are going to
be shot in one long session (a year) and then the post
production done.

The movies would then be released at 18 month intervals.

I seem to recall that there are even guestimates on
which years etc the movies are likely to be out.

I found it in Barnes and Noble, Nashua NH (hardcover). The specifics are:

	Dark Force Rising
	Timothy Zahn
	isbn 0-553-08574-3
	jacket price says $18.50

HttE was also out in paperback.

It was a pretty expensive paperback too. I paid over $6 for it. So far it's Ok
but I haven't really gotten "into it" yet. It's starting slow for me. liesl

Well, after a slow start this book became a fun read. I'm ready for the next one.
Unfortunately, it's comming out in hardback this month, not paperback. I guess
that means a long wait for those of us too cheap to spend the big bucks. liesl

Liesl, as a likely hardcover bestseller, it's a pretty good bet that many
libraries will be buying the second Star Wars book. Which means a short wait
for those folks who are too cheap to spend *any* bucks. :-)

Thanks to a friend who bought the hardcover I've read book 2 also. I liked it
better than book 1. I want Luke and Mara to get it on!! These books aren't big
on love and romance. Oh well, liesl
