Subject: Masterpiece Theater Survey
Posted: Sun Feb 19 16:09:23 1984

What, you ask, is a survey about Masterpiece Theatre doing in
net.tv.drwho? Well, the latest issue of TV Guide (that cerebral
magazine) has an article on Dr. Who with the following quote:

Public-television stations are particularly enamored of the show
because they can use this mercandise [jackets, badges, etc.]
as a come-on during their pledge weeks. "We tie the whole
package together and give then a piece," says Wynn Nathan, president
of Lionheart Television, which distributes the program in the U.S.
A PBS station running the show can offer a bit of memorabilia
in exchange for a contribution. "People join the station in droves,"
says Nathan, "and they get a stupid Doctor Who T-shirt."

Not only is Doctor Who a draw for contributions, it also brings PBS
a different and perhaps hipper audience than most of their other
programming. "I guarantee you," says Nathan, "the people who watch
Doctor Who do not watch Masterpiece Theatre. It's really camp."

Well? Do you agree with Nathan?
Here's your chance to speak out. Send in your votes!
I'll compile another in the famous USENET series of unbiased surveys
and publish the results (maybe even sending a copy to Nathan).

Do you, a Dr. Who watcher, also watch Masterpiece Theater?

re 32.1

If you're interested in getting in touch with people/newsletters on the
UUCP and Arpa nets read RHEA::Gateways.doc. You might also want to check
out the Vortex::Sys$Notes:Gateways notesfile. There are several documents
on RHEA:: and ROLL:: about net etiquette and the various newsletters
available.

It takes a bit of trial and error to get anything through the first couple
of tries.

Good luck!
