2268.0. "Stuttgart-Seattle-L.A" by STU03::EDELMANN () Tue May 05 1992 11:01

    Hello all,
we'll make a trip from Seattle to L.A. with our M.B. along the
    Westcoast.
Has anybody done the whole trip or parts of this trip before and
can give me info's about good camping sites, motels and other
    important things along the way.
(It's not necessary that this things stood in a travellers guide!!!!)

Thanks in advance for any hint,

    Werner.

    Werner,

I've done San Francisco to Portland on road bike, so here are
a few hints to start with:

       - Much of the way, you will be on US-101, turning right
onto California Hwy. 1 at Liggett.

       - Camping is quite good: these states have hiker/biker
campsites reserved for hikers and bikers (no motor vehicles)
so you are pretty sure of finding a place even in "full"
campsites. The price is also great - something like $6
at the Oregon state campsites, $1 at the California ones
(though prices may have risen since 1986!).

       - The state of Oregon has a map detailing the coast road
for bikers. Navigation US-101 is not a big deal, but
this map also gets you nicely through intervening towns.

       - There will typically be fog along the coast in the mornings,
clearing later in the day, and cool even in summer (60's-70's F),
while 20 miles inland may be 20 degrees (F) warmer.

This should give you a start...
    gute Reise!
