2141.0. "comfortable hybrids?" by SHALOT::ELLIS (John Lee Ellis - assembly required) Tue Dec 10 1991 18:30

This is a specific question about hybrid-like bikes.
(Broader discussions can be found in Note 1976, etc.)

What bikes could people recommend for hybrid use - namely,
easy off-road (non-technical) trails and on-road use, including
rather longer trips on road? (One thing I'm getting at is a
hybrid that doesn't weigh a ton, and, moreover, comes with something
    more comfortable than MTB-style handlebars.)

Here's one that looks promising: the Bridgestone XO-1 (and XO-2).

Second question: anyone have experience with the moustachioed XO-1 or -2?

    Thanks.

John, I just got some literature on the Bridgestone bike line and the
mustache bars used on the OX1 and OX2 are somewhat different than
drop bars because they do not have the straight area next to the
stem that most people use with drop bars.. Bridgestone calls
this a high E factor bike... I believe that E stands for
Experimental... I like the way the bars look and the brakes are
sort of positioned like mountain bike brakes... These bikes
           also have 26 inch wheels...

Hi,

I bought a bianchi Tangent about 2 years ago, and I'm relatively happy with it.
I did have some problems with the rear hub (medium quality suntour but crappy
design) but as far as design of frame, handlebars (dropped), tires (700x35),
brakes (cantilever), etc., it suits me.

I do basically what you described. Mostly city riding, but some light trails,
and I'm planning to try some touring.

My girlfriend also bought a Bianchi (Boardwalk) and she seems to be happy with
it as well.

Look into Specialized. It's light, sturdy and I use it primarily on
the road. Another bonus is it's a fairly fast bike. Costs about $300.
